Re: What to do with the troublesome AM role?

With an AM you want a creative player, who understands space, with a good pass and a decent record for scoring goals outside of the box. I’m not sure why we wouldn’t put Wing in there. I get that the old/current idea is to have Wing deep so he can “quarterback” long passes into the final third, but...

Re: What to do with the troublesome AM role?

Do the sensible thing and don’t have one. If there is an insistence on playing a 4 3 3, play a flat three that pushes and drops, in and out of possession. When Knibbs was here, he actually played more of a free role off of Smith, more than as a creative number 10. He was never a midfield player and ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Rotherham United (h)

When Noel abandoned the inverted wing positions and played with natural width, i was happy that we were at least stretching teams wide and putting early balls into the box. The last three Noel games looked so much better. Now Richardson has pitched up and immediately gone back to the lack of natural...

Royals and Racers West Ham the only U 21 team left in the competition.
We are the only team on 6 points not to qualify.

Another record to covet.

Re: Rival Watch

An interesting weekend of matches which highlighted how tight the table is and how there are no givens in league one. Including the Thursday night result, this round of matches ended with all of the top seven clubs losing.

Extended-Phenotype When he jumps he is somehow lower in the air than he was when he was standing. It’s like he jumps inside himself like a oxf*rd accordion.

The technical term for this is an Asaba.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

A rare live game for me. Great result, but the quality of football from both sides was dire. Wasn’t exactly overwhelmed by the differences between Noel’s Reading and Leam’s Reading; looked to me like Leam just picked up where Noel left off. Feels a bit unfair to reel off a bunch of criticisms after...

Re: Randell Williams and Andy Rinomhota

Weird one Rinomhta. Could be he has fallen through some contractual crack. If he is fit and not carrying some chronic injury issue, I would sign him. He fits the Couhig dynamic, free.

Snowflake Royal Stevenage also have a dreadful fanbase. Well known round here for being thick thugs.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

It does highlight how little there is between the sides in this league. That was a side that could have gone top with a win against us, and at no point did they look like a side capable of doing that. As far as visible changes to the team goes, there were a few as far as I could see. There was gener...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

How depressing is it going into a home league game against Stevenage, one of the smallest tinpot teams in the EFL and no one expecting us to win ! This is turning into one of the most miserable seasons ever ! Tinpot is relative. I expect we are tinpot in comparison to other clubs. Better to look at...

Re: Rob Kelly - New Assistant Manager

Least surprising news of the day… Yes but interesting* that we appear to have taken him from Barrow - so unless there was a clause in his contract allowing him to move in certain circumstances, we may have had to pay a release fee. Also interestingly, whilst the press release states they worked tog...

Re: Dai's final f*** you

I've been thinking for quite a while now, that if you have a good season in League 1 and don't get promoted, Championship clubs will come hunting for your stronger players, especially if they're contracts are up. Most decent League 1 players can at least be comfortable in the Championship at a mid-...

Re: Dai's final f*** you

Dai Yongge gambled on success and continually chased his losses until he simply wasn’t able to. Treated his clubs like they were just bad bets that didn’t come off. He took over a club that was a penalty kick away from the Premier league and thought that financially pushing it would bring success. R...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Lane looks like a good signing. Williams likes a knock and Marriot hasn’t completed half a seasons worth of matches since his hamstring tear in 2021.

The rest of them would not get into the Reading team from this point last season.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Carlisle United (h)

I think Richardson will have learnt a hell of a lot more from that collapse than he would have from an insipid 2-0 or 2-1 win. He clearly nailed a lot of our problems from 120 minutes of football. I'll take that as a crumb of comfort rather than a positive. Midfield is a problem for me. We need to ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Carlisle United (h)

We are making subs for fitness levels in November, which is not correct. There are some really strong performances without being collective as a team in there. People need help within that on the pitch. We need people to return to fitness and stay fit if we want to progress and move forward. It is ...

Re: Dear Leam

I'll admit I followed online without watching, but there can be no excuses for failing to see it out from 2-0 in the 90th minute. Head to the corner, waste time, take a yellow card for fouls on the halfway line. Do whatever it takes to make sure you finish the job. That's true in L1, let alone agai...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Carlisle United (h)

Yep some truth in that. As I said whilst watching, doubt we’ll see a number of these lads in the near future (or again) in the first team Who, and what are the alternatives? Stickland would be one. Prob get a few more chances due to injuries but I don’t think we’ll see too much of Camara, maybe Kye...
