Re: Poll: Recruitment

Very good new Couhig interview on YouTube which talks through the recruitment as well as Noel/Leam Difficult to argue with to be fair and very honest link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=8I6sXSd0FUE Agree or disagree with him, you can’t fault his commitment to engagement and t...

Re: Dear Leam

I hope he does...Wing told a local journo on Thurs that things had got too comfortable. I heard it was Wing who went to the board and said things need to change, this was after the bust up in the tunnel between Lane and Hunt. I've seen reference to a bust up between Hunt and Lane a few times. We ar...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

Reality is though you need an out ball. We can’t always pass the ball in nicely to the feet of the front 3. Someone who can scrap and win a few balls, stop the defender dominating in the air etc. Goal kicks an obvious example That long high ball out wide can be really effective - someone like Meite...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Not saying it was him, but had a check on how Bowler is doing at Blackpool and his stats were extremely unimpressive May have dodged a bullet there All the reports indicated it was him I thought. Done deal from the usually reliable (on this at that time) Brogue. Unexplainable delays. Unofficial con...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

We've got a good first XI that should be capable of getting up the table. But there's a big drop in quality in some key places beyond that. Noticeable CB, and striker. And the AM and wings aren't firing to start with. Pereira vs Stevens Williams & O'Connor vs Stickland and Burns. Marriott vs Ke...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

I think we’ll see quite a lot of movement early in the transfer window anyway in both directions If Hunt is banging on about 3-4 more players needed which he wasn’t supported on I don’t think his helping himself mind you. The numbers were plenty sufficient just the profiles, performances and injuri...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stevenage (h)

One small tactical thing - I think fitness permitting, LR will either go Yiadom/Jacob or Dorsett/Abrefa as full back pairs. We basically played 3 at the back with Jacob lw on Saturday. Yiadom as CB. Abrefa a decent crosser where Dorsett is definitely a more defensive FB so that combo would work in ...

Brogue
What’s funny? Of course that’s what lawyers do. they look to discredit stories by changing the narrative. Moving the focus to other people.

Righto.

You could say that about anyone tbf.

In fact you could say its exactly what Brogue has been regularly doing about Couhig.

The irony.

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Do you think Doyle was helped by literally being labelled as plan b for if/when Knibbs left? Esp as he isn’t really very similar to him But he clearly has something. Fraser also has something, has scored 2 good goals, but was in and out and put in different positions. I actually think he could be c...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Said Ritchie, Marriott, O'Connor and Williams, I know there have been some injury issues there but these have all looked consistently good when they've played. Agree about the loan signings, dunno if it's poor recruitment or bad luck but they aren't doing well enough and I'd rather we not waste tim...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Positionally speaking, we appeared to do a good job at patching up where we needed players. I'd argue the majority of those players should be playing better than they have managed, and maybe this is reasonable evidence for Hunt coming up a bit short as manager. It's going to be interesting to see i...

Re: Rob Kelly - New Assistant Manager

Welcome to him.

Big changes in the coaching side, as you'd expect. We've felt light there in numbers and experience for a while, so getting four new highly experienced people in, to replace Hunt and Marshall... anyone else? Legs was still around for the Cup... seems pretty good work.

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Has Bindon made us forget that Academy players don't usually just walk into the first team as the finished article?

They usually take a season or two of gradual exposure to really settle in.

Re: Poll: Recruitment

We’re not a charity. If Ryan or Stickland aren’t going to play then they should not have had contracts. Dorsett likewise if we assume injury prone. Yiadom, much as I like him also. We also have Clarke as a non playing LB/CB. Add in JOP who I forgot as a mini winger, that’s at least 6/7 contracts th...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

In a way I think it’s a little unfair to pick out individuals - prob better to look at the overall signings in relation to the squad I’d ask why do we have 4 capable senior LBs (Jacob, Garcia, Dorsett, Ryan), 3 RBs (Yiadom, Ahmed, Abrefa) tons of small lightweight wingers (Camara, DK, Lane, Ritchie...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

Yeah it’s too early to say on some. None have been an unqualified success yet. Everyone (including me tbf) said Williams is a good signing but he’s been injured more than he’s played, he’s 33. With our recent history on ‘experienced’ CBs he might not play another 5 games Others have time to improve...

Re: Poll: Recruitment

I really don't get the Jacob hate. He started atrociously, and he still makes a few mistakes, but he's been perfectly fine most of the time. For me, the best of a bad bunch of loanees. He looks really good sometimes but he is a bit of a liability at the back. Certainly doesn’t deserve the hate even...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Carlisle United (h)

You win the ball back more often and effectively through forced and unforced passing errors than tackles though. Tackles often just break loose or go to the opposition, as much as turn over possession to you. We seem to be really hit and miss with our shape so sometimes we close the passing lanes r...
