Shirt Numbers 2014/15

by McClearyChops » 14 Jul 2014 11:09

The Royals can confirm their squad numbers for the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Changes include Sean Morrison taking the number six shirt, Danny Guthrie moving to number eight and Hal Robson-Kanu named as the club's number nine.

Jem Karacan moves from number four to number 21 - a personal preference due to his admiration for Italian maestro Andrew Pirlo! Player of the season Jordan Obita will be number eleven for the new campaign.

The club can confirm that Royston Drenthe has not been allocated a squad number.

Shirts can be pre-ordered from Reading FC Direct today - complete with the name and number of your favourite Reading star!

Some interesting highlights for me - Drenthe not getting a number is the headline for me. Also HRK asking for 9 - he obviously sees himself as a CF as he could have taken 10 for example. Guthrie moving to 8 - indicates he is not going anywhere (or why bother to change shirts).

Pleased that they have left some low number gaps 4, 10, 14 etc which implies we are leaving space for some signings....

All of the u21's from last season that are here have a squad number. Tshibola has 18, much lower than the other u21s.

Interesting, but maybe I am reading too much into it all.....

Feds gets the 1 shirt....

Jake Taylor to have 'J Taylor' on his shirt, suggesting we will be signing another player called Taylor.

Obita wears 11, Kelly wears 3. Obita now a winger again ?

Interesting that Tish gets 18. Likewise the 26, 27, and 28 for PS, CT, and AK hint that those 4 are the most likely to be included.

I still think HRK can be a very good striker.

McCarthy moving to 20 could suggest he's off. Surprised that Williams didn't take the vacant #4 shirt.

Perhaps the manager knows we won't be getting a new striker in so no need to save the no 9 shirt.

Pretty much sums up most peoples opinion of that. It looks like he's getting an extended chance up front. Would rather he just left tbh!

Club's claiming it's a personal preference. More alarmingly the Twitter feed just described him as a 'young forward' suggesting another stop gap up front.

McCarthy giving up his 21 shirt? I know they're claiming that Karacan wanted it, but combine that with Feds retaining number one... All circumstantial, but not looking good for us keeping hold of him.

Not sure how you'd describe him. He's played full back, midfield and various forward positions. He's as much a forward as anything else.

Maybe some footballers really don't give a toss what number they wear. It was so much simpler when a club had 11 shirts and you just wore the number of the position you were playing that day ! We've now got yet another thing to massively over analyse and try and draw conclusions from nothing from !
