In my opinion Faye's challenge was probably worse in a better goalscoring position for the forward.

This is how I see it:-

Middlesborough - Lots of luck - 3 points

Villa - Very little luck - 0 points

What could have happened:-

Middleborough - Neutral luck - 1 point

Villa - Neutral luck - 1 point

Therefore we have 1 more point as a result.

Altogether now......

The bolton pen was worse than sonko's by far. Just seen it now, its a fkin joke. He can feel hard done by...and hopefully channel his frustration/aggresion positively on the park.

The refs have got to get their acts together and ensure that a greater degree of consistency is applied to the apllication of the 'professional foul' rule.

The Charlton v Bolton game saw two penalties. Both fouls were at least as bad/intentional as Sonko's and both instances were equally as clear goal scoring opportunities. Yet, unlike Sonko, both offenders got the benefit of a just yellow card (the right decision in my view).

The rule should be amended to properly reflect the reason why it was first introduced. i.e. a red card is shown when in the view of the officials a player has intentionally used foul play in an attempt to deny a clear goal scoring opportunity. So if a defender is felt to have made a genuine attempt to tackle the opponent fairly no red card. On the other hand where a keeper such as Kenny deliberately dives to parry the ball away with his hands despite obviously being outside his area - red card.
