This whole Bikey situation has been blown way out of proportion.

LOL at this thread.

Have all you stay-at-homes made a pact with each other during the game to pretend to be a bunch of pussies.

Im particularly impressed by the implication that a man should never play a game again if he gives away a penalty. The play off semi is only half over, so man up you lot.

Ian Royal The player was on the edge of the box and running into it. Definite penalty.

So, if a player is tackled outside the box and falls into the area it's a pen? On the edge is not in. The Burnley player in that picture is only just in the area therefore the offense must have occurred outside the area, therefore no pen..

If the offence continues into the box, it's a pen.

Ian Royal You could argue the original offence happened outside the box, but it also happened in the box and that was where the Burnley play went down. Regardless, if your that close to the edge, given the amount of time a ref has to see it and give it, you can't complain if it's given as a pen.

Saw it several times and I think the ref got it spot on.

I'm not surprised the ref gave a penalty, it just wasn't a penalty. The offense took place outside the box. Look, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one Ian.

Page 109 of the Laws of the game:

"If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and
continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award
a penalty kick
."

Bikey's surely a twat for not letting go soon enough.

I was proud of Bikey.

Whenever Reading lose, a late red card is a good sign - it shows somebody cared. He was clearly upset at the defeat, and reacted accordingly. He deserved the red card, but it was hardly a life-threatening shoeing, more of a annoyed flick.

Anybody who really detects any disrespect to the club rather than the referee at him taking his shirt off and throwing it down really needs to get a grip.

I presume he'll get a big ban and leave for ca £1 million, but I'll remember him fondly.

What Coppell said on the TV at then end sounded like sour grapes at the time, but he was correct really.
How could the referee, from his angle, tell that Bikey was still holding onto the shirt inside the area?
Morally, it was a penalty, but the decision usually goes the way of the defender if it is a premiership player doing the holding, or in the Chelsea game.

Silly foul for the penalty (which I didnt think was a penalty at the time) and silly sending off incident.

However saying throwing his shirt on the ground was a disgrace, I just cant agree with. It wasnt like he did it in a "f**k you Reading, I dont give a shit about you" kind of way. He did it cos he just went off his tits! His anger was directed at the ref, not anyone to do with RFC.

It would be interesting to hear his views on it (although I doubt we will). He obviously didnt agree with the ref at all, but replays would suggest the ref was right. And Bikey was on a yellow card as well.

Alan Partridge Probably not much else to add but someone like Bikey just isn't ever going to change. For all his good play at times, he has got a streak in him that is just ridiculous. I don't pthink he's particularly violent or reckless..just well....stupid.

Now you see why Coppell is reluctant to use Bikey for every match of the season, because occasionally and today in a massive game he's let him and the team down massively. I've seen some nonsense about 'if Bikey had played every game we'd have won the league' or 'Bikey is so much better than Duberry' and all this, now you see what someone like Doobs brings that Bikey doesn't. Calmness and professionalism, he's not been caught out stupidly and given away a pen and then even worse got himself sent off. Cost Reading the game no doubt about it, not just that now he misses the rest of the playoffs.

Totally disagree about Duberry. Like Bikey today he has been caught out on the wrong side of the opposing attacker and it has cost us goals and points. To say Duberry has not been caught out stupidly is wholly inaccurate. Yes he has.

statto There's a lot of sanctimonious nonsense on this thread, he made a mistake and lost his head, it happens quite a lot in football.

Watch us not be able to keep possession with Pearce and Duberry playing, watch anyone with a bit of speed getting away from them, watch them have more chances from corners and crosses.

My mate phoned me during the game to say he couldn't believe how a player as good as Bikey is in the Championship.

And to whoever it was who said they don't want centre backs playing 60 yard balls, I'm sure you'll be much happier with Pearce and Duberry lumping it aimlessly back to the opposition.

Much as I was livid about his behaviour at the time, in the relative calm of the next day, I think you have hit nail on head statto.

What about the penalty we should have had when their defender accidentally knocked over Shane Long in the box? It may have been accidental but it resulted in a foul on Long. I remember Sonko being red-carded against Villa in 2006 for slipping over and knocking their player down resulting in a pen.
Then there was the alleged Long off-side when he was holding the line realy well and wuld have been one on one with Jensen.
Lets hope home advantage results in borderline decisions going our way on Tuesday.
Burnley are nothing special at all. We can still get through.

You mean like the first penalty shout in the Chelsea-Barca match?
(Incidently, don't give a hoot about Chelsea, just trying to show what an unlevel playing field referees manufacture)

I was more concerned about the stamp, you go to all the trouble of trying to injure and oppo player and get sent off but you didn't even put them out of the next game!

Thought Doobs was lucky to stay on the pitch as well early doors!

That's true.

If only he had been sent off. We would have knuckled down with nine men and held it to nil-nil, and then attacked them properly without the hoofball maestro at home.

Interesting that Bikey pulled the guys shirt from behind, and the player fell forward. Very odd.

It looks like Bikey's season is over now.

We should forgive Bikey. He is the BEST centre back at the club without doubt. He has his hot headed moments but we should stick with him. This behaviour happens occassionally with Bikey because he's a mad man. It doesn't happen all the time though and most games he puts in a commanding performance.

Just forgive and forget.

It'll have to Pearce and Doobs for the second leg.

For me Kebe put in the most b*ll*cks performance of the afternoon. He got nothing right. If we could just get some decent wingers in we'd be a much better side. We are just a few wide boys away from being a damn good side again. This summer should be spent scouring the game for class wide players.

Kebe did put in a cracking cross in the first half which Burnley just managed to clear. He also had a decent shot on goal. He did mess up badly by not passing to Kitson. We all know that. Doyle though was just as culpable missing two point black chances that he should have taken. Its not all Kebe's fault.

Of course but just because he has he then hasn't resorted to blatantly fouling someone in the box with 6 minutes to go. It was petulance from Bikey because he was caught out.
