Didn't we also have some Eastern European in on trial (not Mate, someone else)? Bring him back as well!

Are you thinking of that guy we had on trail from a Russian club - you know, big black guy who we let go after it was obvious he had anger management issues when he lost his temper and got sent-off in a pre-season friendly ...... ah!

No. I'm not. As that player was brought in on trial two seasons later and wasn't from Eastern Europe? :|

Are you incapable of reading or something?

The guy Blaha or something that played against Didcot you mean?

I've spent too much time on bookface recently. I just looked for the "Rawlie19 likes this" button

Ex Reading vs the new RFC side..... I guess I will go - but after all the talk of Celtic it is a bit of a disappointment.

It's only a testimonial.
Who cares?
They'll be all having fun and p*ssing about.
I bet Murty takes and scores a pen

I'll be there, considering the amount he has given to this club, the very least he deserves is a fond farewell. He's not the kind of player that would want to move on, but he's left the club with the greatest integrity and deserves a year or two more, injuries permitting. I just hope he gets the kind of attendance and reception he deserves.

Shouldn't make a difference. The guy is a legend. The best captain we've ever had (I think his true worth was discovered when he was OUT of the team). And with money going to charity I don't think I would mind even paying £30. It won't be anywhere near that, but that's my feeling anyway.

Aren't the club now haggling about the costs to stage this and there is no guarantee that some clubs will agree to release players--Kitson, Sidwell, Shorey etc.
I think Murty deserved much much better than this!

I read that it was his "testimonial committee" that were concerned about the costs.

Sadly it will make a difference. We couldn't even sell out either allocation for a Play Off Semi - so a game with less attractive than expected opposition is likely to struggle for sales.
In bygone days we went to testimonials to give loyal servants a final big payday as their wages were poor. Often a testimonial season could raise something like 3 years pay. Nowadays after police costs / stadium costs etc it may only be a few months pay and players don't need the cash at this level anyway.

Out! As I wont be in the country :(
Gutted, was hoping it would be in June. Whatever the opposition, I would always want to say goodbye to a Reading legend

and isnt this a little bif of an insult to murts? there was mass hype talk of a showpiece with celtic and now the best we can muster is a reading promotion xi....? no disrespet to the team, i seem to remember them having a rather fond place in my heart, but is there even any word on who is going to be showing up for it?
