YateleyRoyal
Royal Rother Oh heck, you're good.

Is one of your housemates The MVP by any chance?

You're a funny one! Seriously though, what was wrong with what I said?

You do make a fair point Yateley-if these players were regulars in a side that reached 4th spot it is a bit of a surprise that they are immediately surplus to requirements regardless of what any new manager might have thought.
It makes me think that the new manager is already almost in place and has had some input into who should be kept.
We are not a continental side where coaches are given players and are expected to get the best out of them and the manager has always had a big say in who he wants to sign.
It is difficult to argue against any of the leavers for varying reasons but hopefully the new appointment can be made soon so that new signings can be made rather than doing the usual Reading and leaving things to the last minute.

It is extremely unlikely that Hahnemann, Murty and Duberry could be better for us next season than this season, so what's the point in paying them a salary when we have young players (and a new manager's inevitable signings) ready to step up? They have been great for the club but we need to clear the decks of the old pros who've been around for a while as their very presence can inhibit the young players from taking responsibility and really imposing themselves.

And Lita is just crap, but anyway wants to move away and pick up a signing on fee as a free agent.

Barring Hahnemann, who we didn't miss a great deal when he was out, they weren't regulars. Duberry played quite a lot towards the end, but we didn't have a whole lot of choices and he is getting old now and he played a big contribution to our aimless hit it and hope philosophy. Lita played a few games here and there and contributed nothing. Murty played 1 solitary game.

Doobs played 29 games.

If he wasn't a regular than what was our regular centre back pairing ?

We didn't really have one.

Bikey 28
Duberry 29
Pearce 21
Ingimarsson 29

includes subs I'm afraid. Not really anymore regular than any of the others.

If Kitson has gone back to Stoke already, has Blakey gone back to Pompey ?

I think both would have been looking for a way back, but their performances whilst on loan would not warrent it in IMO

Personally, not really surprised at any of them going and I actually think its for the best. Time for a new manager, new ideas, new players and a season for it all to start to gel - could be a couple more years til we get another realistic crack at the Premiership as a result.

Exciting times are afoot at last....

YateleyRoyal I was discussing this with my housemates earlier, and I realise that on the face of things we've weakened our first team. I mean, we've realised our first choice keeper from the last 5 years, our club captain, our team captain for the last 10-odd games, and our one-time record signing. Doesnt make us look too good IMHO

More recent record signings include Seol, Halford and Emerse Fae iirc.

Its hardly a badge of honour, mate.

robb the royal So by your theory, any one who doesn't act correctly off the pitch should be sold by their club, arsenal should have sold adams, everyone should have sold gasgoine, Leicester should have sold ALL of their players, spurs should be in the process of selling Ledley King?
Ok, maybe he needed being knocked down a peg and being put in the reserves.... he was and proved that he was worthy of a starting place... he was in better form than other strikers (besides Long)
His attitude can't have been that bad... what was his thinking? 'ah yeah, i'm the sh*t, i'm a proffessional footballer who hasn't been a regular starter since 2005' ?

Adams and Gasgoine had alcohol problems - they needed professional help! This is the first time Ledley King has ever been in the spot light for his behaviour off the pitch! Lita has been caught in the mix of too many fights in nightclubs - he's been known to go out drinking days before a game and I think Coppell saw right through him! He did think he was bigger and better then Reading Football Club - glad to see a player like that leave the club!

Mr Irascible Steve Coppell
Kevin Dillon
Wally Downes

Thanks to all for the memory but this club needs younger and fresher legs, new ambition, fewer prima donnas, tougher tacklers. You all know who fits which category!Stephen Hunt
Leroy Lita
Andre Bikey
Brynjar Gunnarsson
Marcus Hahnemann
James Harper
Marek Matejovsky
Graeme Murty
Michael Duberry
Jimmy Kebe

The club remains! The fans remain! The memory lingers...URZ!

Just checking on who is left from my list:-

Andre Bikey....going?
Brynjar Gunnarsson...staying
James Harper...maybe going?
Marek Matejovsky...maybe going?
Jimmy Kebe...staying?

Not a bad call I would say!

Speculation from some based on the fact he did not even make the bench for the Newcastle game.

It's not a firesale. Not that I approve of the lack of replacements, mind.

You know, looking back on that list it's hard to argue with any of the decisions the club took over the summer in relation to the players they let go.

Out of all those that were released none have set the world alight. USA has been decent but not really an upgrade on Fedders IMO, Doobs got released by a team reLOLagated from L1, Lita has been poor, he scored less then bloody Rasiak this season :|

Murts has been crocked all year, Golbourne hasn't been doing amazingly even in L1, I've hardly heard of anything Little's done with Sheff Utd and Kitson's had a paddy or 2 this year back at Stoke.

Harper's been average at a team who finished 1 place above us in the league and Rosie was out of the team by the time we played up at Ipswich a few weeks ago.

Of those we sold, Bikey again can't even get into a doomed team, Shunt's missed half a season with injury and it's only really Doyle that's fully delivered on his price tag.

Funilly enough the only guy who I think we cocked up on was Dan Harding, as given Armstrong's injury nightmares it would have been good to have some competition for Berty, but even then Berty > Harding.

It's now hard to imagine how Kebe got into the original list.

Matejovski - Love to see go though the Kebe makeover plan but doubt it will happen, so if he's not playing best he goes elsewhere.

I thought USA was recognised as a significant part of Wolves staying up - pretty much played every game since Christmas.
