loyalroyaldaz All you whinging about Anton have a look at SJM. He's the one who sold out to him and lined his own pocket thanks very much. I notice he has said fcuk all again lately. Probably sat up last night laughing his cods off over a bottle of some expensive champagne until he inevitably passed out on his luxury shag pile !

Madejski did what he could for the last 20 years - he wasn't a bottomless pit and his other business were all struggling. So he found a buyer, who he and we thought would be a step up from Madejski - a younger man, keen to own his own club and put some money. So far, AZ has done precious little to my mind - but we can't blame Madejski for that. And why would Madejski speak out - isn't he waiting for the last of his money this month? Can't remember exactly when it was, but thought it was around now - so he's moved on - the club is no longer his responsibility. Direct your ire at AZ - he holds all the cards (and the money).

I think it would be quite understandable if he faced criticism from fans. He has brought it on himself through some of his assertions.

Sometimes we do forget he is still in his early thirties and does not have the control with his comments that Madejski has gained with experience. That being said, I have severe doubts he has the ability and finances to take the club forward and I am starting to get a bit nervous about the clubs prospects under our Russian overlord.

Well there's the petition for Anton to sack Hammond and spend money, so I guess it's started.

Libertine mentioned 'damaging brands earlier and my fear for a while had been that now Reading are a Championship / flirt with the Premier league club, within that sphere of clubs we are fast building a reputation of a club that tries to do things on the cheap..

Successful at it as we have been in terms of achieving two promotions in less than 8 years , if we keep to this path, this reputation will grow and it will put off potential targets coming to the club, either because they will feel they can get better wages elsewhere or because they will see Reading as a club that will never fully invest heavily enough to truly achieve an ongoing Premier league status.

Other, perhaps more traditionally larger clubs carry that status that can draw players, in the belief that if they get rolling the club is big enough to get into and stay in the Premier league.

I don't think we have that status and as such we lose out on some players...

That said some of the high wage merceneries we would not want but if we were slightly more ambitious and still did our homework on a players background then at least we would have more of a choice on the calibre of player we bring in...

Also, if ever there was a season to invest it was this one, we have the parachute payments, have just come out of the premier league and at the start of the summer recruited an ex England player, an ex Real Madrid Player and a current US international. Initially as a brand that shows intent and could be used to attract others, if we lose that momentum and stat selling our best players, that momentum will go and we go back to little old Reading trying to do it on the cheap.

A balance is required, but we have to be seen to be ambitious I am not sure against other clubs of our status we truly are...

parachute payments are paid, and designed to smooth the transition in wage structure from prem to champ.
not to bankroll spending on new players.

No - I'm saying to the people who are moaning about Madejski that it's not his "baby" anymore - and it's AZ who is in charge of what we spend and do not spend.

What if funds were available, but it was Adkins and Hammond's failure to convince players to sign?

Reading beat Brighton = fans content
Reading lose to Brighton = Outrage at the lack of signings

Big game next Sunday which could shape the season.

its up to you tbf, by all means vent some rage at them my good man

but we arent barcelona- we cant just turn up and say- "hey, its us, barcelona. Just sign where we ask there's a good chap."
if we want good players they will be by definition be attracting interest from bigger, better clubs.
almost every single one of them with bigger grounds/fanbases. more distinguished histories, silverware in the cabinet, a name which these players will understand and identify with, AND more money to spend.

given these factors, shirley its churlish to actually blame adkins or hammond.

Then I still wouldn't complain about Madejski.....

And it wouldn't be AZ's fault either. I'm not sure what your point is? :|

I was just trying to show that there may be circumstances, where Anton isn't to blame. Completely unfounded of course, but that doesn't seem to bother many on here. Brendy I don't blame any of them, just stirring. I realise that buying all the players you want isn't like filling a bag of pick n mix.

Now there's a shock.
