The only thing more inherently exciting than speculation about signing a striker is speculation about signing a foreign striker.

Unless they're Irish.

Platypuss
Tazewell Royal Has this really happened yet?

Still not appearing on the Beeb's Transfer Talk, and nothing on Stockport's OS.

It was announced on Sunday - as per the very first post on this thread!

http://www.stockportcounty.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10419~1508221,00.html

That article only says they are "EXPECTED" to sign.

loyalroyal4life enter a new striker no doubt, just hope it is someone with proven quality and not a gamble signing.

still think (once new striker is in) that s.long should go out on loan and s.church can be the 4th striker

"Unless they are Irish"

What a stupid comment!

We'll gladly take back Doyle ,Mooney and Long seeing as you have such little regard for them.

I think he was being sarcastic if you read the whole thing. He is basicly saying speculation about signing strikers bores him, especially if they are foreign. Then his sentance at the end (remember this is all sarcasm) must also be reversed, meaning, he will only get excited if there is a rumour about us signing an Irish striker.

Well I think that is what he meant.

You can leave Doyle. The other two you can keep.

No, it was just sarcastic and a bit rude. I was quite proud of its efficiency.

It was also a reference to the summer when SSN said "RFC will sign a foreign striker" and the board buzzed for a bit, until it was revealed to be Noel Hunt (no slur on the player, just a recollection of what happened).

Mooney got his debut! 8)

Stockport County OS Michael Raynes returned to the side after recovering from his hamstring strain and the County chief handed a debut to recent loan signing, Reading striker Dave Mooney.

... Anthony Pilkington had started the game well and he came close to giving the Hatters the lead on 17 minutes. Receiving a pass from Mooney he cut inside Michael Timlin and hit a curling left-foot drive that was well turned over by Peter Brezovan.

... The game began to swing County's way and they threatened again on 23 minutes when Tunnicliffe's deep free kick was nodded back across goal by Raynes. Mooney got his head to the ball and watched as it hit the foot of the post.

... Mooney showed quick feet two minutes later when he went past Jerel Ifil; Patrick Kanyuka saved the Robins with a well-timed tackle.

... After 32 minutes Mooney exploited the space down the Robins left. He passed up the shooting opportunity to try and play in the better placed Pilkington; unfortunately he pulled the ball behind the County winger.

Mooney substituted at an unspecified time. :D

They dont seem to impressed

Just Got Back (no I don't have a very fast car...I live about 20 mins from Swindon).

Quick impressions...

Apart from Pilko and Fon Williams, who were a class apart, we were quite ordinary tonight. There was little movement and the defending was sloppy at times which resulted in Swindon having more chances than they deserved. I suppose Blizzard was OK and Tommy Rowe worked hard but more effort and creativity is needed if we are to remain in our current position.

I'm afraid Mooney, on his debut, did not impress. His movement was good at times but he needs to realise that at this level the ball will not fall perfectly at his feet and he will need to find himself some space and be more positive if he is to create chances. He had a couple of chances to shoot but either fluffed them or seemed unwilling to have a go. Jim subbed him half-way through the second half.

It was quite an entertaining game though!

I'm guessing that this being Moody's first serious game for 6 months might have meant a) he wasn't quite match fit and b) he might not have been quite up to speed !

I think we'll know more about him when he's had 4 or 5 games for them.

More like...a typical fan of a Div 1 team when they sign a Champ striker and expecting them score from every touch

Used to happen to Reading all the time back in the day when we signed players like Mark Robins, Kevin Lisbie etc....

Missing an open goal from 4 yards wouldn't have helped
