londinium, the squad we have doesn't have enough quality in it to consitently win games in this league.

It's not a case of them playing to their potential, their current potential or ability just isn't good enough at the moment. The fact you say Federici is more than good enough for this level sums up where you're going wrong I'm afraid.

RL - good point on Megsons wages being a stumbling block. He'll probably have be receiving a decent sum from Bolton though so maybe it won't be too much. On the flip side, it may be that if he takes another job he loses some of his severence pay though, so it could be even worse!

nickbob_sexypants I think one of the major problems is the relationship between manager and players.

Obviously I am not at the club so cannot say too much, but from listening to how BM and McD spoke about the players it seems like they were more 'pals' with the players.

The manager as I see it should surely be their boss and not their friend. I think this is where Coppell was good and got the best results out of players.

It just seems to me that the player / manager relationship is not quite right at the moment and needs someone to come in and show some authority so the players are almost scared of the consequences if they under perform.

I think you might have a point, although I think the money going around the game at the moment probably means managers need to be more pally with the players than they did 10 or 15 years ago.

It certainly didn't seem to stop Mourinho making a success of things at Chelsea, but in general I'd agree there needs to be a distance.

I am not a great Feds lover and would have liked Marcus to have stayed. I also never though he was really upto it in the games he played prior to this season, but he has proved an excellent shot stopper this season and has either kept us in games or stopped us getting a drubbing in many a game.

He is no great shakes but - 'certianly good enough' for champ level.

As for the rest of the squad, again, no great shakes but there are 4,5,6 or possibly 7 teams that that don't have a first team as strong as ours can be on its day.

Federici can pull off some excellent saves, so do most keepers in park football. The difference is that a good keeper doesn't make basic errors that put those decent saves to waste by gifting the opposition goals or not keeping out some of the lesser efforts.

He's not good enough because he conceeds too many soft goals he should be keeping out.

Many keepers at this level let in simply goals occasionally, but on balance from the goals he has let in this season I would say he is on a par with the average keepers in this division... never said he was a good keeper just that he coud certianly hold his own at this level.

So do think he is one of the worst 3 in the division then?

Spot On. Federici might get there in time, he is still just 24 which for a keeper isn't old what worries me is I don't really think his shown that much improvement over a while. He has the occasional decent game, but unlike Hahnemann you knew that in most occasions he'd just be solid. With Federici there is always that feeling that the opposition will score. Obviously the defense is a major factor here but even so there have already been too many goals go in this season where I felt he should have done better.

At the point of the season where if there was an experienced keeper out there that guarantees you 7/10 every week (like Maik Taylor) who was available then I think I'd want him.

Having said all that he isn't the person(s) that need immediate replacing in the team.

Hard to say as we don't see all the other keepers regularly. What I would say is there are probably at least 10 first team keepers in this division that I would prefer to him.

I've not seen anywhere near enough of the keepers in this division to rank them to be honest.

All I know is that from watching most of Federici's first team games, and plenty of his reserve games over the last few years, I don't think he's good enough to be a solid Championship keeper.

I expect all players to make mistakes, goalkeepers included (and I don't subscribe to the cliches view that they're unlucky because their mistakes always lead to goals blah blah blah because they make plenty that don't) but I just think he makes too many for this level.

londinium What we need to get us out of this mess>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< THE TEAM TO PLAY TO THEIR ABILITY

Do you all not agree that......

Jimmy Kebe - I love the guy so I am biased - nobody can doubt that he can be very good but lacks the consistancy.
Cisse/Gunnar/Matty/Tabb - All good enough to hold there own in the Prem - champ should be a doddle for them and on their day it is.
Long- Did it in the champ and prem and was the only one who kept us in with a chance at the end of last season when everyone else faltered.

Megson - could definately do the job
but I have an irrational dislike for the man - NO NO NO NO NO .

Im not even going to comment on these points because I think you can see the mistakes here.
