Ian Royal Anton Rogers - the actor, was a prick.

Was he really, or was he merely playing a role ?

You need to show more respect to a former Readingite who was a big fan of the club.

Yes he was, seeing as I'm talking about my experience of meeting the man, not watching some shit TV show. I don't need to show any respect to anyone who hasn't earnt it.

Fair point, which will be remembered !

I met someone famous once, but can;t remember who it was or whether they were a prick. It may have been Leslie Crowther.

For clarification, I make a distinction between being polite - which every one deserves until they prove otherwise and respect - which no one deserves until they prove otherwise.

Personally I think everyone deserves respect until they show themselves to be unworthy of it.

It's pretty sad to start from the basis that no one deserves it by right. I would have said it's a fairly fundamental part of the law and the concept of 'human rights' that EVERYONE deserves respect. It is however something that you should work to retain as it is easily lost.

I'm not sure a thread about signing a youth player of the Team Board is quite the right place for this discussion though !!

who have we lost lately that we really wanted to sign? Devine went to Villa for loads of money, and the Korean boys He and Sic went to Valecienne because of work permit problems. apart from that Steve Shorey and Steve Birchmore together with Eamonn have landed all their targets. Much more to come from London and Ireland! Not forgetting that in Jake Taylor and Abduli B-B we still have the so far best two boys to break through.

^^ This, although the discussion is more one for AE. My other half would agree with Ian. The way I see it, everyone is a top geezer/bird, until they give me reason to think otherwise. They get my respect, equally I expect it from them.

I think you're both wring. Strangers deserve respect as fellow human beings, but "top geezers/birds" are people who have earned more respect, in the same way that oxf*rd are people who have lost my respect.

And isn't respec' the new FA watchword anyway?

Just a little bump on this one, I played footie with Barry Hunter the other day and asked him about Jordan Obita and he tells me he's the real deal.

For those who don't know, Barry Hunter, ex Reading Centre Back, is currently scouting at Man City.

Said it's impossible to compare his potential against that of specific players who've gone before him but apparently he's mint and could easily go all the way.

Cheers for the post mate, holds a bit more water coming from barry hunter. Legend.

Anyone at the game ( possibly cambridge) where he hit 3 balls outside of the ground in the warmup? lol

^^^ 'ave it.

Regarding respect, I'd say much of what's wrong in this country is down to folk giving zero respect until it's 'earned'. But maybe that's just me showing my age.

The Korean boys are still on our radar apparently. We're using Valecienne as a feeder club, in a Royal Antwerp way to Man Utd. This, of course is from my reputable source, the club photographer who I had a bit of a chin wag with at Kettering (Ultra Reliable source  )

Would doubt we're using Valenciennes as a feeder club seeing as there in Ligue 1.

:( One of the nicest people around. If when you met him and he was anything less than incredibly pleasant you were robbed.

Maybe Ian just met him on an off day. Probably close member of family died or something like that. On balance I think we should give Anton a break. I know I will.
