Quality as he is, I really don't see him as anything more than emergency cover. 5 years younger and he'd be the first name on the team sheet for me.

If Griff isn't eligible then Gunnar can bench warm.

Would this 4-1-4-1 be a bad idea? oh well... here goes!

Everyone says all Cisse is capable of doing is breaking things up but nothing much else, ok - so let him sit in front of the back 4 and do that. With Cisse sat in front of the back four it should allow Gunnarsson and Bertrand to give a bit more aid to McAnuff and Tabb with wingplay, whilst also allowing Karacan and Sigurdsson to get forward and help Church with providing goal threat. Would be interesting to see Sigurdsson back in his more favoured central role as well. (Chose Bryn because looks more effective going forward than Griffin and I'm not sure what sort of delivery Griffin can provide?)

When we've not got the ball, with a 5 man midfield and Church as well we should be able to do a good job of closing down and putting pressure on the man withe the ball. Play on the break, get crosses and men in the box. Can easily switch later to 442 by taking off one of the central 3 for Long, Thorvaldsson or Rasiak if required.

Bit negative for a home game I know, but I reckon Burnley could prove to be a harder opponent on the day than the uninspiring Liverpool side we faced last week.If not 4-1-4-1 i'd play 4-4-2 with the same line up but with Thorvaldsson in place of Cisse and just go for it.

The problem with that is the one who sits in front of the defence tends to be responsible for distribution from them as well. Cisse can't do that. He also has to be positionally aware and good at tracking runners. I don't think Cisse is very good at that either.

I also don't think Tabb has proved too good on the wing in the past. At least since his Brentford days.

To be honest I agree with both those points, was almost tempted to use Karacan in front of the back four and have Howard or Matejovsky instead.

the thing is, whatever 442 I or anyone else comes up with I don't feel entirely comfortable with it for one reason or another!

Whatever line up we select, I would expect to see Griffin and Thor lining up. The more game time they get the better.
