Lets not forget the one that possibly best matches up to ours....a certain Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid!

I don't see too many people slagging off that one on here.

He's a knob head for calling it the Madejski Stadium, but like many people say, better than some shitty sponsorship name.

I don't thinks that's really the point here, thinking he's a knob for naming it after himself or not - he is an ego maniac but what's new?

We as a club lose a lot of money every year and so much so we have to keep selling our best players. We could like many clubs lease the stadium naming rights to a sponsor and make whatever it would be we make a season. Some say £500,000 a season, other clubs more. Nicky Hammond as ever would drive up the price!

I'm not fond of Madejski's name on ths stadium, but it could be a lot worse. However I do think stadium sponsorship is pretty much money for nothing. It is only a name after all. It's not like I call the stadium by it's full name anyway. It's just the 'football ground' to me and probably many others.

If we can make an easy 500k for having Gillette's name or someone elses over the stadium then I'd be more than happy with it. That 500k is 10k a week in wages or a significant transfer fee, or the difference between us selling a decent player that we don't want to lose.

When was the last time that we lost a player that we really wanted to keep because we couldn't afford his wages?

The players we moan about being sold typically have been going for several million pounds. Bringing in half a million a year - even if that's a realistic amount - doesn't mean we get to keep the likes of Gylfi.

Was that its original name then?

It wasn't. It got renamed in 1955.

Adams Park and Ninian Park are/were both named after people, and nobody thinks those names are a joke.

I would suggest the only people who think the name of our stadium is a joke are those who have an axe to grind with Madejski himself.

Nope, but then I never said it was.

It is however named after the guy who had it built who just also happened to be the top dog at the club at the time (their equivalent to the club board voted to give the stadium his name - ring any bells?) and the man largely responsible for growing the club massively.
