Can anyone help with this slightly odd question.

On match days can you catch the bus in the wrong direction, i.e into Town before the match or does it just shuttle people to the station?

My bird wants to go shopping in town, while i'm at the match.

You can get the park and ride buses into town before a match. It operates as normal as there is an allocated section for shoppers on matchdays. Or there was when I last read up about it...
