Plus 4 months is a long time for Roman to change his mind. He probably wanted to give RDM a chance to prove he wasn't a one-hit wonder; and given some of his curious tactical decisions (e.g. playing without a recognised striker last night) and the lack of improvement from Torres, Abramovich has probably come to the conclusion that he just isn't very good.
Saying that...I don't see the logic behind sacking RDM just to put Benitez in charge short-term till Guardiola is ready. May as well have just stuck with him for another few months..
