he needs to play on the wing so his cross-field passes don't fly into the crowd

C'mon Barca, snap up this insufferable man - the most overrated player in the Premier League, the man who seemingly invented the concept of passing the football as if no player had ever successfully managed this before - and end the tedium of speculation over his future and the man himself pimping himself to Barca every single summer. He will be best remember for invading the pitch at the end of a game in which he was not even playing to sneeringly confront the players of Wigan (or was it Hull, anyway Arsenal - the flack-track bullies that they are - had recorded their usual handsome win against non-entities). Good fcuking riddance.

Not forgetting this

Go to a game or two and watch him live and then you might be able to assess his abilities a bit better.
ALL of the English pundits rate the guy-I would suggest that they can't ALL be wrong so you might care to reconsider your inane comments.
You're probably one of those people who think that EVERY cross made by Beckham is pin-point accurate-that is the one thing that Beckham does in a game whereas Gerrard is all action and a terrific presence on the pitch.
He is probably the best midfielder England have had for 30 years.

lol

charge around with your sleeves rolled up, gesticulating and controlling it on your shins on the edge of your box - what a player

if he was spanish he'd have got 10 caps at right back before they decided he wasn't good enough

I think you have been staring at Laura Tobin's eyes too much and are blinkered to what our Stevie does.
Incidentally he started in the Liverpool first team as a full-back and was so good that they soon moved him to midfield where he has been a star for the past 10 years.
BTW nothing to do with rolling his sleeves up-his movement around the pitch is so quick and graceful he doesn't need to gesticulate to others.
He is one of those players that can start a move and then amazingly has made up so much ground he is in the box to finish it-a real athlete.
I really think you must have been watching somebody else called Steve and would love to hear who is English and has been better in that position.

Saying that Gerrard can't pass or isn't a very good player is like saying Lampard is fat.

It might make you seem funny on the internet but deep down everyone knows you're talking rubbish.

If Gerrard was Spanish he'd be a different player because they generally play a different way. I've no doubt that if he'd gone to one of the Spanish sides a few years ago, when he was at his peak, he'd have had a massive impact. That might not make him better technically than a lot of their players but used effectively he'd have been a real handful because he's different.

You only have to look at how effective someone like Baptista was before moving to Real to see that a powerful attacking midfielder is something the Spanish teams struggle to deal with.

I prefer my midfielders with a hint of subtlety.

Not just a few years ago, I think that he could have done a job for Rayo Vallecano , Granada or even Celta last season.

I'm just being facetious, as my second post in this thread should demonstrate, Gerrard at his best is a typically english midfielder who would boss for any team in the premier league. He's just not been that player for a couple of years now and seems to have faded a little early which makes him an easy target.

Cliches do abound amongst the pundits but that doesn't mean that they have no idea about the merits of a particular player.
Know what I mean, at the end of the day ,or even early doors?

Would love to hear your opinion on Paul Scholes. The bloke announced his retirement a few months ago but you've already forgotten he exists.

LUX usual target

Let's be honest about it, if floyd were a footballer, he'd be Dave Kitson. He says some stuff that is incredibly run-of-the-mill and no one but a handful of Reading fans pays any attention. No one else cares because it is all so blatantly obvious it isn't worth talking about. Saying that you hope Fabregas will leave Arsenal and that the whole media circus surrounding his transfer will end is about as fantastically-well-chosen as saying that Joey Barton is not a very pleasant young man. Such original thoughts! I'm going to subscribe to that blog! And right away! LUX, you're a grown man ffs.

''He will be best remember for ... doing something against a team I can't remember the name of.' Really? In world football, that's what he will be best remembered for? Really? He 'invented the concept of passing ... and etc.' - for all his many failings, one cannot blame him for what pundits write about his performances on the pitch, even if they have got carried away from time to time.

I have criticised Fabregas enough (especially) over the past twelve months - his flashing imaginary yellow cards at referees and his behaviour in the cup game against Huddersfield were especially unsavoury. His having a go at Mark Hughes when his Blackburn side frustrated and ultimately eliminated Arsenal from the cup was very very arrogant (and immature) but he is (alas) still an excellent footballer, as good as any in your national side. If he were English (or for floyd, Spacey, & LUX - not playing for a particular North London club), you would love him.

You're not drinking enough, starfrisch. Lux, for all his worldliness (not least his enviable experience with French women), loves the low-brow wits of the board. In that respect, he fits right in with the masses. You're not going to gain many admiring nods pointing out that the likes of floyd and scutterbucket are really a bit vapid. Anyway, surely time for Cesc to go, even if he has brought some great moments to English football, but more to the point isn't it time his boss moved/was moved on?
