Looks Slough Town are not that far away from the next roadblock :wink:

Will be very interesting to see what would happen if they did return to the town. In theory the town could support a conference club but i'm not sure the locals care that much these days.

Good news, but like many I will only be convinced when I walk through the turnstiles for the first time (especially with an election on the way).

Attendances: it is painfully obvious when you go to Holloways Park that STFC are missing a generation, with very few teenagers and millennials. The Supporters Trust are running events in the town to let people know that Slough even has a football club, but it will be very hard work building up support to anywhere near the 'good old days'. Still, even with the same level of support there would be more money coming in from the food/drink, and no-one will have to fret about games being called off due to the pitch :wink:

How's the work going re the ground grading Christof?

I wonder whether it would make more sense to groundshare at Stag Meadow again? We have the appropriate grading, a fantastic pitch and it's more convenient for Slough supporters to get to.

I appreciate that the pitch would not be as good with 2 teams playing on it but it'd still be a damned site better than Holloways Park.

In fact Windsor have everything needed to get out of the CCL - except a decent striker. Without a player budget it's likely to continue to prove difficult to get one so a bit of rent paid to Windsor could be mutually beneficial.

Unlikely I know however there were a couple of Windsor faithfuls talking about this last week - just wondered what your take on it was.

Sounds like it's going okay, they are having working parties in to do some tidying up, weeding, mainly cosmetic stuff. I'm not sure what the deal is with the SYCOB groundshare in terms of contract length, cost etc, but concur about the respective pitches!

Personally I prefer Holloways based purely and selfishly on the time it takes me to get there compared to Stag, but I'm sure many (most?) would disagree (and I'm sure you've noticed that some of them like disagreeing :lol: )

Didn't Slough get better crowds at Windsor than at Sycob? Obviously having better public transport links and a town of people who don't really support either club but if at a loose end may pop down and watch a game helped in that.

I wonder what Sycob are using the Slough money on? Windsor wasted a lot of it although they did get in some pitch improvements which long term have helped.

Yes they did, and you're probably right re: 'floaters', but I can't imagine that there are enough to make it worthwhile moving back just for that, especially if the new ground does get built in the next couple of years.

Well, it doesn't look like it's going on the pitch! Without the groundshare IMHO SYCOB would really struggle financially, as their crowds are a third of Slough's. They've certainly cut (or maybe even removed) the playing budget in recent seasons, and they'll do well to keep in Div 1 in all honesty. Mind you, there are 3 clubs in the Southern Premier with attendances less than half of Slough's...

...and sadly two of these are in 'our area' - Hungerford and Burnham - the latter a near neighbour of Sluff! :( - indeed the 'Rebels' average following, is also currently above that of FOUR Conference South clubs and not far behind that of Staines.
Slough sit 10th of 23 in average crowd sizes in the Southern Prem - just behind Chesham & Chipp'num who've both been at this level considerably longer in recent times and don't really have any 'local' competition (Amersham four levels lower get low double figures at best).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...other breaking news this week was the FA's reported U-Turn on grading enforcement at STEP06. Seemingly they will not insist on expulsion for clubs that don't meet the necessary national criteria (particularly non-floodlit) BUT have resolved to think about it again in 3 years! :roll:
Actually some clubs can't win - for example Clanfield '85, halfway between Swindon & Oxford, have spent a small fortune on trying to bring their quaint little rural patch up to standard (tbf it is one of the better aspected Hellenic Div One grounds already) - only to find they may not have bothered.
Is good news for Finchampstead, Chalfont Wasps, Letcombe, Penn & Tylers etc in Hellenic Div One; Farliegh, Sheerwater, Worcs Pk in the CCL.
In the Hellenic League's case I think it was evident, the STEP06 geographical footprint of those eligible clubs remaining would be far too wide to enable a viable constitution. The STEP07/08 clubs who could normally 'feed' this league from below, invariably baulk at travel costs with the current configuration. Merging East/West would have culled that route for good.
The top four in the CCL Premier all have decent looking away matches at grounds he's not done - but doubt I'll encourage him to go for CWU v Molesey though - bit too far inside the 'Orbital Car Park'.
We'll see where the mood and weather takes us. He's not a had a great Half-Term what with having a cold/stomach-bug; the inevitable squabbling with bigger siblings and the crushingly inevitable let-down that was Tuesday night.
Tried to cheer him up by taking him out again for a night match on Wednesday (Guildford v Molesey) - but he felt ill in the car and we never managed to get through Bracknell - thanks to roadworks nr Bagshot/M3 :evil: - so we turned round and came home.
Believe that Windsor actively want it but i suspect that there is bad blood on the Slough side. If i recall correctly it was one hell of a price Windsor charged!
In the local paper the Slough manager mentions they expect to be getting 600 fans a week if they get the new ground up and running. It's obviously hard to tell but i suspect that'd be heavily based on having a successful side AND making the club a good place to be ie a great bar and tea hut! :wink:
Windsor 3-2 Newport Pagnell - and so the defence of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy continues to the final...
Windsor absolutely terrific in the 1st half, unrecognisable from the poor showing on Saturday against Knaphill. 100mph right from the start, high intensity from everyone and a 2-0 lead into HT which was thoroughly deserved.
2nd half a different story. Newport Pagnell upped their game and ours dropped - pretty quickly back to 2-2 and followed by some great chances squandered by NP.
We found our feet again as the half worn on without ever reaching the heights of the 1st half and finally got a penalty in the 93rd minute which was converted by Lazarczuk to save us all a late night of ET and poss pens, for which we were extremely grateful.
An enjoyable night.
Royal Rother Windsor 3-2 Newport Pagnell -
An enjoyable night.
...agreed - " I know cos I was there" :P
... wasn't my first (or 2nd - 3rd - 4th and so on) choice last night but traffic and timings conspired against me somewhat - wanted to get to to Ash v Chessington & Hook but $oddin' queues on the Shinfield Rd had me giving that up before I'd even left Reading; missed a 2-8 too.
Next bet was Hanwell but although the M4 east was flowing well the M40 was reportedly queuing between Staines & the M40 so I gave that up too.
Thought it was very much like a boxing match between uneven weights - Windsor fast and decisive had the slower ponderous NPT reeling at the end of the first half.
2nd half the more powerful visitors slowly stepped up against tiring hosts and all but put them on the floor. There were countless breaks and half-chances that should have finished the contest and Windsor looked particularly vulnerable in the centre of defence. Kirby and Ellis in the home defence stood out amidst the growing carnage around them and possibly contributed to the game still being level as it slid into injury time. Another half-hour would not have been too upsetting but it was a bit nippy; so Lucas's tricky slalom coming to a crude end under a fairly witless lunge was a welcome conclusion.
I think Windsor eventually 'got out of jail' somewhat but probably just deserved to progress for their first half display.
Flackwell Heath await in the Final - a similar proposition to Newport Pagnell, albeit currently one in much better form. Could be another intriguing tussle of pace and skill vs power an guile.
Nice one FOC.
I thought Ellis had made a few too many forward excursions in the 1st half and was getting skinned alive in the 2nd, hence his substitution.
Kirby is class at this level but is virtually our only threat in the air and was in the oppo penalty area a lot as a result last night; consequently he was nowhere to be seen when NP broke after our set pieces and Riaz in midfield who had held back was completely outpaced / outmuscled when trying to cover those breaks....
Lucas hasn't been great of late (his best game for ages last night) but is so tricky he really needs to make a bee-line for the penalty area more often, especially when it's crowded!
Frimley Green 2-0 Windsor - :shock: FGs run of 15 straight defeats comes to a very surprising halt with this win over Windsor. By some accounts the visitors were understrength and well below par - some tasty stuff flying about on F'Focus about the game too - quite entertaining tussle twixt RR and their Trolls. :mrgreen: Watched FG last week and there were definite signs they were not far from an upturn. Indeed this win gets them off the bottom thanks to Guildford's inactivity this PM. - though Hanworth's big win v Hartley W won't have helped their cause.
Glad to have entertained you FoC! :D
As I said on t'other forum we were below strength but undeniably dreadful. I don't think I made any excuses (they would have been very hollow) but it was exceedingly relevant to the performance to note that probably our 2 best players this season (Kirby and Lazarczuk) were absent.
I think my comments re Camberley in the last couple of weeks (essentially good luck with the promotion push but personally I'd struggle to find a reason to go out on a cold and wet night to watch their brand of football on that pitch (the 2 are undeniably connected)) have got under the skin... which was probably expected / inevitable but only a consequence of honest observation.
...unwritten rule breach there RR - can't overtly criticize clubs whose fans may be the most numerous on a LEAGUE based forum. That and the fact the CCL community probably still regard your lot as 'interlopers' from over the border - hence the comments about needing to get back to the Hellenic to get promotion. :twisted:
for example - you'd probably get the same reaction having clear digs at Hornchurch on the Ryman Board.
Personally - being a naturally obtuse git - I used to love 'fishing' around on the old Hellenic forum (very) gently tweaking the Witney fans - and of course the erstwhile 'little-drummer' fellah from RTFC.
Witney Town/United were by far the best supported on there for some years before the club folded. They never quite accepted me tagging them the 'BlanketBoys' with each posting and any club challenging near the top from outside the usual clique, used to get unwarranted stick.
It's a bit like whistling in the wilderness on there nowadays though - I occasionally still get a rise out of Ardley and Kidlington fans - usually by putting up a 'cod' defence of HIghmoor/IBIS - but they aren't exactly that prolific on there and the board format is extremely short-term-ist.
Back to review/preview stuff - this PMs CONF North game ended
Glawster City 1-7 {SEVEN} Oxford City - City within 4 points of the PO places - similarly OCFC and Brackley get dogs abuse on the Northern forums too - usually along the lines of 'new-monied Southerners' - the vitriol is more concentrated the better the clubs do of course.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking ahead to this midweek - there's a few games in the CCLP :

Only Camberley are in action from the top 5 - they go to Cobham FC to take on MVSCR.
Hartley Wintney trek up to the top of the M3 to visit Spelthorne; Westfield play CWU & Baddy Lea are at 'home' (Ash FC) to Molesey in the League Cup.

In the CONF South Basingstoke are at home to Bath.

In the Southern League: not much on apart from the Div One S&W section where our two local strugglers, Wantage and Fleet have home matches vs Yate and Tiverton respectively.

Hellenic action, more or less all Cup-based, with Henley due to be at home in the Supplementary to Div 2 Stokenchurch, if the river levels have dropped sufficiently :? and Newbury hosting Highworth in the Challenge Cup. Binfield trek up to Rayners Lane in the Floodlit Cup S-F - the other S-F is at Faraday Rd next Tue (10th) when Div One Nor Lye Reserves visit Newbury.

In Div One East Sumas are at Chinnor.

Finally Tadley will be seeking to claw their way back towards the top of Wessex One as they go to Andover New Street.
