I think the answer might well be 'copyright'. To link to another site is ok but to 'plagiarise it' is not. It is a low risk of any legal comeback I am sure (in this case) but there are places that will take offence at people copying their content - hence it is probably safer to link to the actual page.

John 3:16 Do me a flavour. Quoting the BBC website is hardly plagiarism. Saying I wrote it I would concede that I might be breaking a law... Would be surprised if ... ah, I've lost interest in my own argument and you may be right. Not going to stop doing it though.
