Well this might happen.
But even so, DJ Campbell's officially offside goal stood vs Blackpool, where we dropped 2 points so we are in just as good a position to complain.
Furthermore, the goal vs Watford was barely Reading's fault, and the officials spent the rest of the game trying to even this out, as well as the player's mentality being affected. Sheffield United have very few legs to stand on.

It was the ref's mistake not Reading's. Who exactly would they take to court?

We should replay the game we could do with the two extra points.

It is rubbish though. Wet Sham broke the rules under which they trade in the Prem by knowingly fielding ineligible players, the FA made a capricious decision to let them off the points deductions they've applied to many others, based simply on how many fans they have. That really is an invitation to sue.

Reading were the beneficiaries (or not) of a doubtful refereeing decision. No rules broken, not our fault and the referee's decision is final. No grounds at all for litigation.

And to be fair Reading evened things out by being totally off-form since Xmas. Not our fault that Brum and SU didn't take advantage of our slump leaving us with a chance of promotion.

pwb On talk sport at the moment Ian wright and Co, are talking about the goal that never was and are saying BFC and SUFC will probably go to court over it if we get promoted, Due to the fact, that if the goal was not given, then we would not be in our present posision.

SUFC bad grapes again and they will probably bring WHUFC into it.

All thoughts welcome!

The game was so long ago now, I can't see how it would affect any thing now.

They wont get anywhere. The FA didn't act, end of.

Didn't we have a perfectly good goal dissallowed in the same game after the ref realised his mistake?

Sheffield Utd might have their own action to defend over the summer...

LoyalRoyal22 They cant do that, its bollocks. The game could have swung in a different diection if that hadnt of gone in, and we could have won 3-0. Plus, didnt Coppell offer to replay the game?

Quite right, as I recall didn't Bikey have a perfectly good goal ruled out for "offside" shortly after? Perhaps we should sue the officials as it could have earnt us 3 points - and therefore not having to worry about SUFC at all on Saturday.

This wouldn't make it to court. Clubs all over the place would want justice for offside goals etc... All this will do is add further evidence that we should bring in video technology. 10 seconds and the goal wouldn't have stood and the game could have continued.

This is a non story.

Agreed, although my take is simply that officials make mistakes, always have and always will - its part of the game so just get on with it.

Decisions go against clubs all the time - it doesn't mean that they have a legitimate case for compensation. that is the nature of sport.

A case for compensation should arise though when a player suffers a fractured skull because someone smashed him in the head with their elbow. If it happened outside of football, it could certainly result in a civil claim for compensation and possibly criminal sanctions as well. I know football is different, but in the case of iain hume it could easily be argued that it was an intentional or reckless act that goes beyond what is an acceptable challenge in football and barnsley have had to keep paying wages to a player that couldn't play

Promotion/Relegation should be played out on the pitch and that is final. One player or one decision does not make a season and i don't think clubs should even consider suing for the cost of relegation.

Individual players should still have recourse for compensation when they have been intentionally injured though

They could sue us, but they couldn't win the case as it would undermine the decision of the referee at the time. If it was overturned, then it would open up a miriad of retrospective cases, least not Sheff Utd's one against West Ham.

Mr Optimist You mean you don't llike to listen to Alan's almost daily January to March grovelfest for his place at the Coral corporate trough at Cheltenham Festival....

or his slightly to the right of Adolf Hitler's political views??

Best thing on Talk Rot in the last week was Alan Brazil and "Porky" Parry's indignation at the new income tax legislation for earners over £150k a year!

+1 horrendous radio station with nothing to talk about and no rights to any games!

Don't mind Terry Chtistian but apart from that awful!

Agreed.

Hmmmm and Sheffield United gained two points at our place as they got away with a handball in their penalty box. We should make that appeal if Sheffield United get promoted over us.

But they could draft in an expert witness who will prove we hardly ever score penalties.
