Is that the same Griff who is currently sunning himself on the beach in Spain?

"We've seen at Reading what a good passer he is and the way he conducts himself with the younger players - they gravitate towards him."

Surely this wouldn't be great if it happened in a match...?

Griffin plays waiting game over Stoke future

May 27 by Martin Spinks
martin.spinks@thesentinel.co.uk

STOKE stalwart Andy Griffin says he is waiting by the phone to see if his long association with the club will finally end this summer.

Griffin has returned from a successful loan spell at Reading, but City boss Tony Pulis says he’ll listen to offers for the 31-year-old club captain.

Griffin says he is open to offers from the Premier League and the Championship, but would gladly remain at Stoke.

“Reading manager Brian McDermott has said he would like me back and has let that be known,” said Griffin, who’s on-off links with Stoke stretch back nearly 15 years ago.

“He knows me as a character and what kind of player I am, but we will have to wait and see what happens on that one. I’m not going to just dismiss an offer from them, but I’m not sure what will happen over the summer. I’ll stay by the telephone and wait and see.”

Griffin still has two years left on his Stoke contract and has stated in the past that he prefers not to move his young family from their Barlaston base after years on the road at Newcastle United and Portsmouth.

He said: “The family is in Stoke, the children go to school around the corner, so I don’t want to uproot the family.

“I’d have to look at Reading. The location is not perfect, but if that one was to progress further then it’s something I would have to take into consideration.

“The bottom line for me is that I want to play football and I’ve got to say I enjoyed doing that again while I was at Reading.”

Griffin was a member of the side which enjoyed a remarkable change of fortune under new boss McDermott.

The Royals were 21st in the Championship, with just 23 points from 24 games, when Griffin joined them on loan in January. He played 21 of the remaining 22 league games as they picked up a further 40 points to finish ninth.

Messiah Leeds are keen.

I doubt he'd go there. He's played here and was happy here, plus he knows he'll definitely play every game here.

Not by a huge amount, in driving time anyway.

Would be a great signing.

Out of interest, anyone know where Griffin and his family live and whether that would have any bearing on things.
