although a middle three of karacan, guthrie and huddlestone or maybe even karacan, trotter and huddlestone would be quite decent and much better than tabb/ledge, I am still not sure if they are of the requisite quality to pull us back from the morass we find ourselves in and there is the question if mcd will change from the formulaic 4-4-2 where we are so easily over-run in the middle to a 4-5-1

yes, currently we get a lot of crosses into the box, whoopee, not much good when the other team can cut through you at will and you lose very game 5-2 or near enough to that.......4 quality signings needed and a change in system and we may be a half decent side

1. will these 4 quality players sign for us?

2. will we invest the necessary cash to get them?

3. will they be so good that not alone they'll stop the rot but they'll have us recover to about a 1.5 point per game average?

all three questions remain in huge doubt and unless all are answered in the affirmative we are down

And I hate to remind you that at our current rate of point accumulation, those teams could take the next 11 games off and we still wouldn't catch up with them.

Ian Royal That's two signings, two returns from injury and a rehabilitation, along with a change of style and formation. It's a pretty long way. And I think you may be being overly positive about Pearce, Morrison, Karacan, Cummings & HRK

Well not Cummings; he's dropped from the above. Agreed Pearce and Morrison as a pairing, lack of experience. Karacan's energy would fit in very well alongside to PL quality midfielders. And HRK has been very good this season; one of the few who can hold some respect about the way he has performed. Which is a surprise as I didn't expect it.

We certainly need to siqn quality in midfield and defence plus a keeper.

We need these EARLY in Jan not last minute! We are almost out of time already being so adrift! Ridiculous! No fannying about Hammond! Doubt we can attract much without a huge bonus.

I would like to see us sign LAMPARD. MIGHT be possible.

once again im gonna go on record and say i have always rated HRK and Karacan very very highly. HRK has done better than i would have expected thus far this season, karacan since he has been injured for most of the season i cant quite tell how he is adjusting to life in the premier league. if we can get karacan back fully fit get one or two solid midfielders in and another RB or CB (preferably RB) id say we could get some points. we score goals, we just cant defend. we also just need some more creativity to midfield so if our wingers are having off days we have more options to score. we really arent that horrific of a side, if pog and guthrie had been allowed to play who knows where we would be. also alfie HAS to start.

We are shit and most commenatators have said so already more gentle language.

We need 3 or 4 new experienced signings. I want to see Lampard brought in but unlikely. QPR at
least have Harry who does attract players. Going to be very hard for us to get in anyone without promusing a stay up bonus or something.

First quarter of the season we managed 5 points. This quarter we have added 4.. 3 to go. Prob be lucky to get 3 or 4 from them so we would have added 7 or 8.. (13 ish)on target for 30 points ish at best.

Other teams will strengthen too. Just seems unlikely sadly.

In:

Stoppila Sunzu
Andrei Arshavin (Loan w/ view to perm)
If a new goalie was needed, maybe Julian Speroni?
Tom Huddlestone (Loan)
Per Ciljan Skjelbred
Denis Cheryshev (Loan)

Oh and José Mourinho, if we're being realistic.

Cheryshev looks increasingly unlikely as he has 'reportedly' just turned down two offers to return to Russia with Zenit and another. He has apparently said he wants to see out the season at Real Madrid and hopes to break into the first team next season. But you never know. Guaranteed first-team football would be very beneficial to him and Premier League exposure as well.

Looking at the strongest reported potential signings, the team could look something like this come jan-

------------Fed----------------------------------------------- Feds
Gunter--Morrison--Pearce--Harte------------Gunter- Morrison- Pearce-Harte--------
-------Karacan--Sunzu----------------or----------------Karacan--Huddlestone------
-Kebe----Cheryshev--Arshavin------------------Kebe------Arshavin----McAnuff----
---------------POG-------------------------------------------------POG-----------------

BUT

it will probably look like this come end of Jan
---------------------------------Feds
----------------------Gunter-Morrsion-Pearce-Harte
--------------------Kebe-Karcan-Leigertwood-McAnuff
--------------------------Roberts--(insert random Brentford player)

Worry is that's the same reason Guthrie came to us. Week-in week-out football to try and break into the England squad. His spat with McD may have further repercussions.

How many players do Reading need in January?

by jmartin542 » 23 Dec 2012 15:53

In my opinion we need two premierleague quality centre mids and a proven prem striker. I like how hard jay tabb tries but he is not a premier leagyue standard player, maybe not even championship standard. Many champiohsip centre mids are better than Jay Tabb. Also, the slowest moving man in the world, Mikele Leigertwood. He is so frustrating to watch. I think we really need Jem back fit but overall we need to sign someone better than them both. I think le fondre is our strongest striker in front of goal but we need an andy johnson of crystal palace to save us (i know they got relegated when he was class but he was still terrific)

CAM and a CDM a absolute must. Top of our christmas list. If we don't get these players than bye bye premier league.
Also thinking about if we do go down we need these players so they have to be happy to be in the championship for a year.

Maybe a CB with premier league experience.

Any additional players is a bonus...

LB for competition. Still don't think Harte is good enough.
