Chamakh to West Ham I see - another team prepared to put their money where their mouth is, as well as Joe Cole - I can see this transfer window as yet a major disappointment showing our complete lack of any ambition to compete

If you were expecting us to chuck around millions and compete in transfer signings and wages with the likes of West Ham, QPR, Saints etc, then more fool you.

I expect and hope to see us sign someone else experienced in the pl before the wba game.

So far we have signed Carrico who has potential but is inexperienced in epl. we may get Rogic but
That signing is complicated and may take time to get a permit. We need more midfield class or quick wingers Jobi never gets forward fast enough in the pl.

We need to do our business fast as we are way back. A lot of winnable games in Jan/feb. MAKE OR BREAK TIME.

Stooper Carrico, Sunzu and Rogic.

Happy with those, and with another 1 or 2 additions it could have the makings of a very good squad. Not enough to stay up this year but definitely in a position to come back up and develop into an established Prem side in a few years.

^^ This... ^^ Plus the fact that Chamakh is shite...... completely over rated. Hardly being banging them in for Arsenal has he....? 8 goals in 40 or so appearances...... The Hammers are welcome to him......

+1 The club are looking at the bigger picture. Yes we would all love to stay up this season and the club will do what it can to stay up but they will also be looking at building a squad that is capable of coming straight back up should we go down and hopefully establishing themselves in the top division over the next 3 - 4 seasons. As fans we all want our clubs to be as successful as possible and tend to only live in the moment but I think if we're patient we'll have the privilege of having one of top 14 sides in the country regularly reaching the later rounds of the cups, staying in the top division and maybe even the odd season in the Europa league.

Agree with all of this, but the reality of what we can look forward to, whilst much more than I ever thought the club would achieve when I started going in the mid-eighties, is still a little depressing!

Definitely the right thing to do though and who knows, maybe one day we'll win the cup!

Keep reliant on the scouting effort to dredge up young potential. There will be no 'big name' transfer coup; availability of suitable players, the money, and the club brand are not working in our favour. We all know it. Besides which, QPR's efforts last season in the same position with a relative abundance of funding only served to destabilise their club. It's a shame we couldn't have held onto Shane... With Carrico at CB and a proven holding midfielder, I believe we might've had enough in that case. Still, it's doable.

Ofish transfer update:

http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/full-transfer-update-578477.aspx?

McDermott went on to confirm that he still hoped to be active in the transfer window throughout January.

“That specific player, the ones that know the level – that would be the ones that we would try to find. That hasn’t changed, if we can get those kind of players – only time will tell,” he said.

“I think it’s just important to freshen everyone up. If we can bring in a couple of faces to freshen up and help the group then we’ll be pleased with that. When you’re in football you try to go everywhere to find players. We’ve done that in the past, it’s the only way you can survive you have to have a good scouting network. Steve Head and Nicky Hammond have done an awful lot of work.”

TheSiege I just want RFC to improve the squad whatever the endgame may be. So far, I have been impressed with our signing and the most talked about incomers are also good. However, Graham scores one goal in three games. He is not a good addition to our strikers and those people who think he is too good for us are still living in the 4th div. Rhodes needs to be saved from the the Blackburn debacle! He is worth three times as much as Graham!

so a 1 in 3 striker isnt good enough for you?

Completely agree. Graham is not sufficiently good to improve us. Joe Cole may have delivered something special either in CM or playing off a striker but probably wouldn't have come, and would certainly have been a gamble. Forget a Championship player - we need someone established at the top level, otherwise pointless in the short term. Who else is there? Realistically, I cannot think of anyone.

He's miles better than Roberts, Church and Hunt.

Doubt we will get Graham as we are struggling in the league plus also we do not like spending more
Than £3m on anyone. He might be a good signing but if finances are tight i would rather see
Us spend in midfield.and out wide ss creativity and ball retention has been awful.

Where are the experienced PL pros Brian? Get them in!

So 13 in 21 on the Championship is better than 12 in 36 in the Premiership, you think?

Carrico.. Saw him on the club website. Probably first day. Looks to be blowing like a old man. Doubt he will be fit for a few weeks at best...

Also it was probably his first day. I wonder what his first thoughts were? Bloody cold here isn't it? Why did I leave Spain again?

He might need to prep up on his Geography if he thinks he's just left Spain...
