gazzer, loyal royal Thought i'd let you know that the Zaha deal nearly went through. It was £4m and Church on loan for the season. Looks likely Church will go to Palace on loan when the loan window re opens, and we'll probably go back in for Zaha in January

Any idea of the reason it didn't go through?

they wanted £4m cash or £5m + church

I thought this guy was the one who got away transfer deadline day?

Celtic new boy Miku has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to sign for Swansea or Reading in favour of making a move to Scotland.

The 27-year-old was a surprise arrival at Parkhead on transfer deadline day, with Neil Lennon securing his services on loan from Getafe.

The Spaniard was known to be a target for Premier League clubs and was expected to try his luck in England if a late summer switch was pushed through.

Miku has, however, put the opportunity to challenge for multiple honours in Glasgow ahead of turning out for a mid-table side.

He said in the Daily Record: "I hope to have a great year here. I like the fact Celtic are a big team who face the challenge of playing every weekend to win.

"If you are with other teams you can sometimes lose but here there is the pressure and I like that. I like the attitude that says: If you don't win, it's a problem.

"It's a big honour - I hope to have a great year and stay longer.

"Swansea and Reading both wanted to sign me in the summer and Getafe wanted money for me before the season started but I said I fancied moving to a big team.

"I was the best striker at Getafe. I played every game and felt if I was to go to another team and another country, it would have to be a really big one.

"Swansea and Reading are both good teams but for me, it would be similar to Getafe.

"Celtic is different. It has the support, the history, the Champions League. There is more here for me. I want to win three trophies and I think we have the team to do it."

When I first read that story I thought it is ridiculous that he chose the Scottish League over the vastly better Premier League. But then I thought at Celtic he is guaranteed at least one trophy when they win the SPL and he will play in the Champions league. So I can see why he chose Celtic.

Indeed. One year forgoing the true challenge of bettering oneself for the prospect of wiining every game (except in Europe of course) could be fun.

Could be a long term-view - become title winning, European game playing team's best player. Get a big money move to a proper big club.

But not serious if you are a player looking to better yourself and prospects. It's a bit like us playing someone like Bray Wanderers and lots of Nobbers believing he is of Premiership quality just because he scored a few.

That begs the question then how did we end up only signing one striker if there were other irons in the fire?

they didnt want to come here, the money asked was too much, wage demands too high, or spoke to them and thought they were cocks?

ManchesterRoyals What and play in the Scottish League with no competition over the Prem League hard to believe

decent wages for relegation favourites, Vs one of the giants of european football playing in front of huge and loud crowds every week, and loads of guaranteed wins/trophies, possibility of playing one game a year in europe

Man Utd, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc and .... Celtic? I'm not sure they really qualify as a giant.

depends how you judge the phrase "one of"

if you think it must be limited to 10 teams, then probably not

I'd say a giant should stand out as amongst the most successful teams in European competition. What have Celtic won in the last 30 years in European football? How many finals have they made?

Edit: One Europa League (or similar) runners up. Excuse me if I'm not particularly impressed.

They consistently have one thing that just about every club in Europe wants....... They are in the Champions League, year in, year out......... Players will make decisions on that one fact alone. They can get exposure through that, more than at any 'league' team, regardless of whether it is the EPL or not.

If you're playing in a team that's winning, the morale will be up. That plus decent wages makes it a very nice place to work. It is, after all a job. Every now and again being recognized as an excellent player by the press and fans must be nice, but when it really comes to it, I think i'd rather enjoy my day-to-day.

I'm only arguing that Celtic aren't a European Giant... I've already said that it's not a bad plan to play in a team that should win loads of games walking a league and get exposure via European football so he can then move to a proper big club.
