I thought the Ruben Selles rumour was a oxf*rd joke but it sounds like he’s going to be announced on Monday. I’d rather have Jones or Cotterill ffs. Seriously, we lose out on one sensible appointment so we appoint someone who knows oxf*rd all about League One football.

Out of interest why does knowing L1 matter?

I believe if a manager knows L1 it helps them to get the player recruitment right for that level. Also, they will have some prior knowledge about the teams we’ll be playing. It’s just my opinion but after what I have been told today whoever we appoint will need to be relying heavily on the under 23s.

Is it remotely possible that the failure to appoint a manager et may have something to do with a potential penalty for non-payment of players (it seems specifically loan players payments)

morganb I've seen Selles described as a good coach but not a good manager (akin to Clement)

What's the distinction between a manager and a coach if Bowen et al are handling the transfer side of things?

Clement, Bullivant, Paunovic are examples of pretty good coaches but utterly cr@p at management and therefore shouldn't be anywhere near a club's hotseat. Reading have appointed two of those under this regime so should be well aware of that scenario so only a complete halfwit would try it again.

Winston Biscuit It's Mark McGhee or no one for me

Ah Yes, that could work, or even Mick and Jimmy we plaid some of our most entertaining football under those two options.

Alan Pardew is available.

Please no, Selles record at Southampton was terrible!! if we're going to get a foreign manager at least get a German in, not another Portuguese or whatever he is!!

Looks like the club shit the bed on Wilder, so lets go for Jones or Cotterill please.

If we get Selles and we have a bad start with a points deduction i can see things turning pretty toxic very quickly!!!

I'm just fed up with all these strange appointments. Selles will top off the list, surely we can do better and deserve better than him.

I haven't seen any proof of Selles even being a good coach.

While I think criticising Selles for his Southampton record is a touch harsh because they were already shit before he took over.

That said it's literally the only management experience he has, why the hell are we going after someone so inexperienced?

Exactly. Can't understand how he got the Southampton job in the first place, but even more confused as to why we think he's a suitable candidate.

He was Hasenhutl's assistant and was basically given the job on an interim basis after Hasenhutl was sacked. Suggests Southampton knew they were pretty much fcuked.

Don't think you can judge him too much on his record at Southampton but it is a somewhat strange and underwhelming appointment if he does indeed get the job.

Didn't he take over from Jones, not Hasenhutl? Did he leave and come back, or was he still knocking about?

He was assistant manager there before wasn’t he? Just an easy option at the time
