Eidur Gudjohnsen on Björn B Sigurdarson last february: "He is just like me on the pitch, only with pace too."

An english agent last year: "It is very rare that a 20 yr old player from Scandinavia combines all these attributes - pace, speed, strength, technique as well as intelligence on the field."

andrew1957 Church has scored more goals than Sigurdarson and at a higher level so I think the choice is Church or a more experienced striker. If we got Siggy back then I will be happy with Church and no need for another striker. That will save money.

Wow - that's a very Snowballesque statment.

It's complete bollocks of course.

We're not talking about FM2012 here, this is real life. Anyone thinking Church is better than Sig clearly needs to go cold turkey.

It really is pointless posting on here as everything you say gets criticised and analysed to death. I was not saying that Church is better than Sigurdason - just that Church has scored more goals and at a higher level (fact!)

Surely the point is if we get Gylfi back we will be playing 4-2-3-1. In that case we will not need so many strikers because there will only be one striking slot. We could buy another top class striker instead of Church but we have to be realistic about expenditure and to me if we could get Gylfi back I would be more than happy if Church stayed to save money. Plus he and Gylfi are great friends and Church has never been the same player since Gylfi left - so he might just come good again if Gylfi comes back.

So from what Ideal says Sigurdason is probably a fall back in case we cannot get Gylfi back - as I assume he will play the Gylfi role - as he does not sound like either an out and out striker or an out and out winger.

I don't think Simon Church has played in the Premier League, let alone score in it? I also have to disagree that Simon Church should be anywhere near the first team next season. He has struggled in the Championship, and we cannot afford to be so patient at the next level. There's very little room for sentiment I'm afraid.

Did you read what I said at 16:48 Jonny?

Church has not played in the PL but nor has Sigurdason and I think almost anyone would agree that the Championship is a much tougher league than the Norwegian PL.

Perhaps you are aware in your EP role that RFC are going to be given a huge transfer budget and if so by all means sell Church and buy someone better. I was under the impression that RFC were not going to splash huge amounts of cash and if so I would rather we targeted positions which are even more crucial (i.e. the Siggy role). But hey it is all about opinions. It is just that no one on here is allowed one.

It could be that Sigurdason is a poor man’s Gylfi – and is intended for the off the main striker role but as I have not seen him play I cannot comment.

not sure if Andrew is on a windup on the Jonny comment!

Jonny is FL's nemesis.

OK - I take it partially back. That's a reasonable stance to take. However, I still don't think Churchy will cut it in the Prem though.

Ideal Sigurdarson scored today.

In a league which has become poorer in the last few years as the standard of football is a bit shocking at the best of times e.g. some of the defensive errors are on a par with school football. For example, the Rosenborg - Stabæk game last Friday was like watching a practice match at times, as Rosenborg were stuck in third gear for most of it against an extremely poor Stabæk team.

I am not saying Sigurdarson is a bad player, but considering the up and down nature of all teams (apart from Rosenborg most seasons) in the Norwegian Prem', it is very difficult to gauge just how good a player he really is considering the pace of the game is slower here and the standrad at the moment not so great. So to jump straight to the English Premiership might be a step too far. Men kanskje han kan gjøre det?
