SCIAG . Unlike Kitson he doesn't need to impress his national team's manager, because he's already first choice.

Your really think that had anything to do with Kitson's transfer? You think, even in Kitson's head, there's the slightest chance of him getting a call-up at Stoke?

It worked for Gordon Banks.

That was after a superb first season in the prem. Tbh I would like to see Kitson setting the prem alight but I don't see it somehow. Could be wrong of course.

Didn't Crouch and Kieron Richardson both get call-ups for England playing in struggling teams?

Richardson was on loan at West Brom from United so I think his link with the reds probably had a lot to do with it.

Crouch was at Southampton which means Kitson has a chance but he needs to do very well this year.

Which is very doubtful as Stoke are likely to go straight back down.

And did it work for Kitson at Reading? When we were firmly in the top half? When he was the top English goalscorer?

If Kitson was ever going to play for England, it was then.

Remind me which of those was closing on 29 at the time?

Kitson spent most of the season we were "firmly" top half injured and scored less than 5 goals.
Being top English scorer with 10-11 goals isn't great, especially when you then stop scoring as the internationals start.

If he scores a few with Stoke he has a chance of getting a call up to the squad. England have very few strikers actually producing anything right now.

Not that I think a call up to England is why he moved. He has publicly said before that he isn't good enough to play for England iirc.

This isn't a very strong rumour. Seems he's off to The Olympics to represent Camaroon.
I hope he keeps his temper and comes back with a gold medal.

He's basically ssaid he wants to leave....

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11673_3877498,00.html

Andre Bikey has admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to move to France this summer.

The Reading defender is understood to be reluctant to ply his trade in the Championship next season and is actively seeking a transfer.

There has been reported interest from St Etienne and Rennes, and the Cameroon international has made it clear that a switch to Ligue 1 represents an interesting option.

He still has two years left to run on his current contract at Madejski Stadium, but is hoping that a compromise can be reached which will allow him to further his career elsewhere.

Choices
"To be honest, playing in the Championship has never been my ambition," Bikey told skysports.com.

"I love the top level, and Reading are in the Championship. I want to play in a top division.

"Playing in France would be good, but England is my preferred choice.

"I could learn a lot in the top league here, or in France.

"I am open to a transfer, but I have a contract with Reading until 2010."

Byekey, funny aint it we took him on despite him nutting some fat bloke in Sweden, no one had ever or would have ever heard of him before and he'd have been left in Russia. First sniff of a chance to jump ship and it's cya. Modern football(ers) I suppose.

Bikey is one of the "better" players that Reading should definately not even consider selling on, if he is worth £3mnow then next year he would more than likely be worth more, he has made tremendous progress since his arrival, and I would think selling on a player of his undoubted potential would be very short sighted and another indication that, for the time being anyway, its all about getting as much money in as possible, for whatever reason ? that will be debated at another time I expect, and it would certainly send a clear message to the supporters about the ambition of the club in this and forthcoming seasons........................and not a very good one !

Bikey is one player who should be labelled 'not for sale'. He signed a contract and we should keep him to it, unless we get a silly offer (£5-6m at least). Disappointing that he wants to go, but it's nothing to do with 'modern footballers', it's simply a players' desire to play at the top level, which in Bikey's case he has shown he can do.

One things for sure, if he plays in the Championship he will absolutely own it, if he gets his head in the right place.

The bloke is a premiership player and I am very suprised that the offers havn't came flooding in for him. If he was to go then yes a big loss but we will just have to look elsewhere...

He didn't play enough games last season to really catch the eye, outside of Reading fans that is, and he made enough basic errors when he did to probably put people off a bit. Even his own manager didn't seem to trust him enough to play him all that much, even when he was our most in form player, let alone most in form defender.

Bikey is one we should be fighting to keep. Even though I'm not his biggest fan he has a massive amount of potential and if we can help him fulfil it then we'll have a huge assest on our books.

We rate him so highly that he didn't even start the must-win game v Derby.
