SPECULATION - Palace looking to off-load Shefti Kuqi

by Mr Angry » 16 Dec 2008 12:52

I'm surprised no-one has brought this up before, but Palace are looking to off-load their centre forward, Shefti Kuqi, in January to save on his reported £13K a week wages.

He is a big target man, a traditional centre forward, and would be (IMHO) an adequate replacement for Kitson.

No way, he is an oaf and can't play our style of football. He is suited to a long ball team with no skill. We haven't needed a replacement for Kitson so far so why would we bother now?

He's been on the transfer list for a few months and no-one has made a move for him yet.....

I think a player of his style would be good for us, ie strong target man. I'm not convinced that he would be the man I'd move for.

Ideal The words "barn" and "door" come to mind.

Decent goal at the weekend, and certainly one that Kevin Doyle would have been proud of.

I've always quite liked Kuqi as it happens. Think I might even have suggested him a few seasons ago, but think he might be past his best now and can't see him taking much of a short term contract which would be all I can see us offering him

We could do a lot worse, but he'd need to take a pay cut too

I can't think of any circumstance where it'd be a good idea to purchase a player who another team in the same division are trying to unload because he's too expensive to pay and isn't delivering the goods!

I recall he was good for Ipswich before they went toss. But hasn't done anything impressive for several seasons.

Probably the right kind of player style wise, but not him.

That's an uncharacteristically daft thing to say Dirk!

A lot of transfers are players who've fallen out with a manager, can't get in the side because of X being better than them (doesn't mean the player isn't better than our play in his position though), have fallen out with team mates, had enough of the area and can't settle, need a new challenge etc etc etc.

It all depends on what the player can do for us, how our manager would want to use him differently, and how much we're willing to pay them of course.

I'd still say no thanks to Kuki though.

Thanks for the back-handed compliment .... but the point I was making is what I highlighted in the quote - the others are perfectly valid reasons to snap someone up. But if someone is expensive and failing then surely that's a complete no-no.

I don't really rate him, but Kuqi > Long? Definitely arguable!
