International break

by higher » 02 Oct 2006 10:31

No first team game until sat 14th Oct (5.15) when little Chelsea come to the fortress.Clearly this affords the team to take stock and clear up any injuries or indeed pick them up in internationals.
Apart from the home reserve match with Spurs (4th oct) there are the internationals to keep us ticking over.
A look at the fixtures sees :

Saturday, 07 October 2006
Cyprus v Rep of Ireland, 17:30 Doyle
Latvia v Iceland, 19:00 Ingi Gunnar
Scotland v France, 17:00 Murts?

Sunday, 08 October 2006
South Korea v Ghana, 9:00 Seol

Wednesday, 11 October 2006
Iceland v Sweden, 19:05 Ingi Gunnar
Rep of Ireland v Czech Republic Doyle
Ukraine v Scotland Murts?

Not sure if USA or Senegal have any matches during this period .Do add any other matches of royal interest.
I gather McLaren has again overlooked the rising talent that is Nicky Shorey for the England games but hey we cant all be perfect

I think these two international breaks have been superbly timed for Reading. There are fewer games in the Premiership but my God don't they come at a different level of intensity so it's been good for the players just to play a couple of games then have the rest, and it's working for us.

Mistake IMHO, he is good enough to play for France.

Interesting that Sonko appears to have now given up on the chance of playing for France. Fair shout for chosing his mother country and lets hope the international experience helps his game improve further. Its also a reminder that we'll now need decent cover in time for the African Nations (January?).

I was on the train back from West Ham yesterday to Finsbury Park with "Ibu's" agent and some dodgy looking African agent. They were talking to someone on the phone about the difficult choice he was facing between Senegal and France and how they were going to talk to someone at the French Federation...

Must have been a diappointing call for him...
