Recognition for Steve Coppell

I think its about time the people that run this town acknowledged Steve Coppells achievments in bringing, (and probably maintaining) premier league football in Reading. My suggestion would be to replace the Queen Victoria statue that stands at the front of the townhall, and replace it with one of (Sir) Steve Coppell!
Any one else got any ideas on how to honour the man?

i agree with the Queen Victoria statue. don't know why its there. apparently she hated Reading, thats why she faces away from the town. what a bitch. we could have a statue of coppell frowning, madejski with his peace sign or doyle on his knees.

probably better to name a stand after him like they do at many other clubs, but we would have to wait till after a leaves us, I hope that is in the distant future yet

It's not generally the 'done thing', to name streets, pubs etc after folk until after their deaths. However, it seems that this protocol does not apply to football stadia.

That's certainly not the case in London. I believe there are plenty of roads & streets on new developments named after some of our sporting stars (particularly Olympians like Daley Thompson and Linford Christie). Christie even had West London Athletics Stadium renamed after him.

Why not rename 'Northern Way', 'Coppell Way'?

I think 'way' is more appropriate than 'street' , 'road' etc. as our success has been attained the 'Coppell Way'.

Strongly agree with this. But probably not yet.

What I'd really like is for JM to try to get Coppell to sign perhaps a 2-year contract this time!

Coppell won't do that, he sees a 10 yr contract in football having as much sway as a yearly one.

If they were not sop intent on having a name disassociated with football for their nightclub venue needs, I'd be for this.

'Shooters Bar' was a better name than 'Jazz Club'. Great...

Yes, take the second right off Ricky Gervais street and head along Chris Tarratt road and you can't miss it.

Seriously, there is a Winslet Road named after Kate Winslet. Also a Senna Road named after former Reading resident Ayrton Senna (in his early days for Lotus he lived near Prospect Park).
