Sunday Times Kitson Interview

by WestCoast Life » 11 Nov 2007 08:46

Dave the Rave is at it again.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/reading/article2848048.ece

Dave Kitson “But, look, I walk into our merchandise shop at Reading and I’m amazed at the s*** football clubs manage to sell to their fans. Football is a successful business because people are eternally bound to their clubs. And everyone in this game has their hand out, everyone wants to get rich, while the fans just get poorer. They hook you, then they hook your son, and when they’ve got as much from you as they can get, they go to the Far East for more.

That's the truth, he's not 'at' anything.
Most football merchandise is complete crap.

He's just being honest.

Kitson is an compleate breath of fresh air, so different from the normal cliche riddled quotes you get from most pro's. And he was right about the food at Sainsbuys as well!!!

Well said Dave and well said to the poster who mentioned an element of 'hypocrisy' about the money thing. But, hey, we are all hypocrites in some sense. Anyone, who cared about world hunger wouldn't in their right mind eat meat but I bet I'm not the only person here who fails that test.
Dead right about Sainsburys. I used to work at the High Wycombe branch and a nastier more unpleasant management attitude I have never come across. It is made pretty clear that you are scum when you start and this is coupled with an attitude of "do you know how lucky you are to work here?".
Is Dave Kitson the only player who can recite Macbeth in its entirety?

Absolutely first rate. I've said it before and, for fear of throwing out a cliche, will say it again: eloquent, erudite and observational.

Love the "trawling" simile, or is it a metaphor?

Indeed - the complete antithesis of the stereotypical Premier League footballer.

Fair comment, A man of the people... I fear it may come back to haunt him if he was to ask for a pay rise.

I'm amazed at the crap inside our megastore.

I imagine he'd had more to say if he was ever to queue up for food.

[quote="dave kitson"]In our small-sided games, people want to dribble the ball, beat a few men and put it in the top corner. I want to play our small games as Arsenal play on the big pitch. You pass, you move, you receive; you pass, you move, you receive. These games, they’re serious, at least they are at clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal. It is where you nurture your technique and your competitive attitude. These games are critical to a team’s development and it frustrates me that everyone wants to dribble, wants to shoot and this morning I needed to get away quickly.â€

If we did not feed cattle we could grow enough vegetables / pulses / grains / cereals / legumes and fruit to feed the world. Explains why I am a veggie.

But once all the cows are culled, then there will be enough water and land to feed everyone. Plus greenhouse emmissions will plummet (esp if the world stops eating rice too)

Brilliant... a thread beginning with a quote from Dave Kitson is going to turn into a debate on vegetarianism and world hunger. Only on the "educated" Reading FC fan site..... Meanwhile on the Chelsea site they're discussing whether the pies are too cold in the Prima Doner kebab van....(probably)
