nice

He scored a few crackers that season. I was following them fairly closely towards the end of that season cos I had a bet on them to win the league, I was pretty impressed with him. Thought he was gonna make a decent impact in the prem, but obviously he's struggled with injury.

Bill Oddie's Beard Apparently the Dutch players didn't like Van Basten's system, so they devised their own in training and he went with that!

ahhh the england world cup winning rugby teams system

Is there much scope in rugby for straying from the 8 forwards / 7 backs system ?
I guess the AllBlacks might have found a way - pick 8 forwards with the pace and skills of backs and then add 7 backs with the size and strength of forwards !!

Southbank Old Boy
Roger the Rabbit Interesting that one of the very strong things that came out of Euro 2008 was teams sticking to a system they believed in (Spain and Holland were the two I saw mentioned in an article) and not constantly changing them - especially not changingthem to try and accomodate individuals.
I'm not a great believer in 'systems' - send the players out to play and forget messing their minds up with whatever the subtle difference between 451 and 433 is (not a lot in reality !).

The alternative view is that the Germans changed their system half way through the tournament, apparently because I didn't watch too many of their games so wouldn't know.

They did but it was down to a couple of factors. First, the team hadn't played well. Second, only Klose up front had played well while they had three decent attacking midfields.

I would imagine that 4-5-1 was always a backup plan for the side even if they would have preferred to have played 4-4-2 with Gomez and Klose up front.

Not sure about Carlos Edwards to be honest, but I guess he would be a good short term fill, and add experience to the raw talent of Henry and Kebe on the right.

Isn't Edwards very highly rated at Sunderland?

Keane made comments end of last season how they had missed him and Keane hoped with a good pre season he'd take the Premiership by storm next season.

Would be amazed if they let him go. I'd give them Hunt and £3m for Edwards!!

Sunderland fans are split, but more want him to stay than go. He is their only dedicated right winger but last season he just had one injury after another and for that reason some fans would be happy to see him leave.

Some think he is not good enough for the Premiership but there again some us think that about Hunt.

Well said Wycombe.
I suggested Carlos Edwards some years ago when he was with Wrexham and Luton snapped him up.
I hadn't realised that he is around 30 but if he has fully recovered from the broken leg a deal where we would get him AND money for Hunt is almost beyond belief.
How many of us have cars that we said we would use to drive Hunt to Sunderland?

Stephen Hunt is to have his medical tomorrow morning with a press conference scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to confirm the signings of both Stephen Hunt and Darren Bent.

Carlos Edwards will apparently arrive in Reading this evening and stay at the Millenium Hotel before having his medical presumably tomorrow morning aswell.

I'm sorry, but I don't quite believe you. What's your source?

It is beginning to sound a bit too good to be true...

Alan Partridge I'd take £2.5million + Jonathan Edwards so to get Carlos is a bit of a bonus.

I would be very surprised if this deal goes through tomorrow but it would be a good one for us. I like the player plus cash deals as at least it means we are bringing fresh blood in.
