Dawn The Reading Chronicle is linking us with a move for Kieron Gibbs

http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/articles/2/4070

Royals chief executive Nigel Howe said: “I don’t think we will have anything sorted by the weekend. It’s important we get the right person in.

So once again we're misslead as the club procrastinates. First we're told that we'll aim to get a replacement before the season kicks off, then when that fails to happen that a signing will happen this week.

Dawn “We know who we can sign at short notice but we must look at the whole marketplace. We’ve been doing that for several years because we always felt Nicky Shorey would go. Now we’re revisiting the names on that list plus a couple more.

So if the club knew he would go (as did everone else) why didn't we have the market 'revisited' sooner?! The club shoul;d have had targets pre-determined with a bid waiting on the fax machine to send as soon as Shorey left.

Is there anybody left at the club with any common sense?!

What a completely shamateurish state of affairs.

A double whammy - we don't have a proper left back and we are wasting one of our best attacking options in SHunt.

This Keiron Gibbs rumour is quite bizarre.

When he was on loan at Norwich last season they played him on the right of midfield if my memory serves me correctly.

So how come he's suddenly a left back?

It could be that the rumour is not true of course.

I'm amazed too.

He's always looked a pretty useful player when I've seen him for the Gunners, but I've never seen him play as a fullback. On top of that the defensive side of his game didn't look too hot from what I saw either, as I said earlier in the thread.

Wenger has obviously tried him out at fullback a bit and he might see that as his future. I'd be surprised though.

Same here. I saw him play for Norwich and apart from being lightweight and ineffective, he was right footed as I recall.

Not exactly the best attribute for a left back.

If we were serious about a left back we could do worse than have got Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea, now on loan at Norwich.

Well you'd have thought Bertrand is the better left back of the two, at least in Roaders eyes, otherwise he'd have gone for Gibbs instead

Our dithering looks to have cost us here

More from the Chronicle and I am realkt=y beginning to wonder about Coppell.

Coppell will resist all approaches for his players between now and the end of the month, as he fights to keep his squad together.

“There has been a certain amount of hovering but I hope other teams respect our situation now that the season has started,” he stressed.

“My squad has been back since May 13. The last thing any manager wants is a last minute rush because the Premier League kicks off next week or there is the transfer deadline in a couple of weeks.

“Why haven’t people come earlier if they want players? Why all of a sudden have my players become more desirable?

“My season has started now and I said many weeks ago that if anyone goes it is at a premium because kick-off has gone.”

And he added: “I don’t want to lose anyone. If anything, I’m going to try and be the predator now bring a couple of players in.

Realistically, we’ve lost two players, we’ve brought Noel Hunt in so the net effect is one loss.
“With a decent run with injuries I think we are okay. But like every manager you want to improve so we will just have to wait and see where we are in a few days’ time.”

But he accepted: “We could still be preyed upon but it’s going to become more difficult to take any of my players.

“The message I want to send out is that I don’t want to sell anyone.”

So we have only lost a couple fo players. That's good then I thought a few more than that went.

Wasn't Coppell's degree in economics or something else that would've involved a few numbers here and there?

Little + Shorey + Kitson = 3

Hunt = 1

3-1 = 2 :?

TBH it is becoming a farce.

Sell a player, who has told you 18 months ago he is going, and no one to be seen coming in. Right fit - well thay have had 18 months to find a 'right fit' so it looks like they can't.

We have all the talk from the club about being a Premier League Club yet at times we really are like a Conference outfit!!!

Peter Gilbert from Sheff Wed has come out saying he wants to leave, watch him on the tv a few times last season and looks ok. Its the kind of unknown Coppell likes

Stephen Carr's a right back, also think he will get better wages eslewhere.. plus he's very injury prone.

Totally agree Arch, we get fed these little bits of hope from the manager with very little substance, he says he has money to spend, as he did last year, but he didn't spend it when we were looking to be in trouble during the January window, after his own admittance that we were going to struggle after we lost to west ham in september. I would really like to know exactly where the management see our club going, as from a fans point of view, with the lack of reasonable investment for new players, and them that do come in Cisse, Kebe are from second rate european leagues, Marek apart there is nothing in the business we do that suggests that we are determined to win our Premiership place back.

We all know about the egocentricities of the owner and he has really got off on being the first man to take us into the top league, now he has achieved that, and received all the plaudits, he sems more than happy to let the club just drift into mediocraty, and refill his ailing bank balance.

It is a joke.
We should of brought one in last week rather than this week. Now we are not going to bring one in this week.

Stephen Hunt - Left Midfielder not a Left Back.
