I know its early days but I think it's pretty clear that we are going to be there or thereabouts in the shake up at the end of the season as long as we don't sell anyone else. This division is wide open to a decent team and the reason everyone is getting frustrated about lack of investment, is that it is equally clear that if we added two players of real quality in problem positions, we could easily bounce straight back to the Premiership.

Aside from Sheffield Utd, possibly Birmingham, and there will probably be a surprise package, Swansea possibly, I don't see much to be frightened about.

winchester_royal Good win, should shut up some of the pcunts like Strap.

In your dreams fella. Actually a crap win against nobodies. Open your RTG eyes.

You used to be held in quite high regard by a lot of people for some of the work you've done.

You're really doing yourself no favours recently.

I couldn't agree more.

Is this the same Strap who in seasons past has been so readily helpful and accurate when generating stats and putting things into prospective?

I must admit, I don't know what all the bickering's been about as I don't use these forums as much as I used to, but I was surprised to see what I was reading with regards to those comments.

Take the high road mate and just get on with it.

We were good but let's not kid ourselves, Plymouth were awful. Most of the season previews I've read tipped them for relegation and I can see why, they played dire hoofball. The midfield was good, everyone was but it was relatively easy to look good against such a shit team. I was pleased for Kebe but it'll be interesting to see him up against a left-back who can actually defend, similarly will Harper and Cisse be able to dominate better midfields? I only hope that we don't repeat last August, where we actually played quite well, thought 'the squad is strong enough' and we all know what happened there.

Decent win though, can't complain. Pleasing to see us get the ball down and pass it, hopefully the players realise how much more effective that is than the long punt.

Ratings:

USA - 7 - Not much to do.
Rosenior - 8 - Dfensively superb, offensiely OK
Shunt - 8 - Looks suited to playing LB, some really nice link up with Bobby.
Sonko - 9 - Super Solid.
Ingi - 7 - Still looks a tad slow..but a good performance.
Kebe - 9 - Bloody awesome, so quick, excellent dribbling skills, and adequate crossing.
Convey - 8 - Looked close to the Convey of old.
Harps - 7 - Quiet, but decent.
Cisse - 9 - Really impressed me today, strong in the tackle, and we saw some passing ability today......could be the real deal.
Doyle - 6 - If we do get offered 7m we should bite Villa's hand off. Very average today.
Lita - 7 - Worked his ass off for the team

Long - 7 - Looked decent.
Kelly - 7 - Looked very capable defensively
Hunt - 6 - Not enough time to make impression.

Don’t get offended Strap by this prat, Winchester Royal on another thread thought John Madejski bought Reading to stop Robert Maxwell making us TVR.
He’s so plastic he’s no idea about Reading’s history or what it was like standing on concrete at Elm Park.

Quite a pleasing result, but Plymouth were so bad. Sonko and Kebe were the best players on the pitch, unfortunatly Ingimarsson and Harper were poor again though.

All said and done by the sound’s of things it was a good result today, but the underlying theme has to be we have to strengthen, just remember this time last year after 3 games we had 4 points in Prem and Coppell did nothing. In September we picked up 3 points ……. Don’t make me bring up my “just to sum up” thread from last year and embarrass all those that posted on it, let's not get complacent.

Harper was solid. Put himself about, threw himself into tackles actually and was his usual reliable self. :|

It was a pleasure to see us not hanging on for dear life for the final 89 minutes of a game and being able to take the game to them once we had settled down.

I predict good things from the Emperor's O-Ring this year...

...along with a swift return to the Premiership, but we do need to get a Shorey replacement.

Errr.... on the subject of history it was Roger Smee who saved us from Thames Valley Royals. Mr Mad came later

floyd__streete Well played Reading ,that was 05/06-esque today; Reading stroll their way to three points with Sonko a colossus at the back. I have to say that Plymouth were truly absymal opposition but we got the ball down and passed it around the park for the most part today, which was a real departure from the long ball dross we had seen thus far. Plenty to work on, but here is to to plenty more routine victories like that.

I'll drink to that mate!

You could say that Plymouth were 'Puncheon' above their weight....

Can someone explain to me why people were texting BBCRB saying Convey was MOM?

What did he do to justify that? In fact, what does he bring to the party at all?

Happy with the win but have reservations about Rosenior, Hunt at left back, Convey and Cisse. Would be nice to see Lita and Doyle stand up and be counted too.

Plenty of room for improvement

Ingimarsson, I might agree with, but Harper went missing, again
