I like Federici; never really seen him make a howler. He was caught out by the cross shot against Man Utd but IIRC their 1st goal took a very slight deflection (off Shorey I think) about 5 feet in front of him which gave him no time to adjust and took the ball just under his body. (I might have the order of the goals wrong in my mind.)

I do remember plenty of brilliant saves.

Joe Hart and Schmeichal have both made mistakes at least as big as any that Federici has made.

Only seen Hamer a couple of times but he does look very decent.

I agree RR - Fed has always done ok whenever I have seen him and his distribution is excellent. Southend fans are raving about him saying how good he is.

Some RFC fans seem to write players off far too early - just like with Kebe, Rosenior, Bikey etc etc - all of whom are now becoming established.

We also have Hamer and Andersen cannot be that bad if SC is trusting him to sit on the bench at present. I have never seen him play and again he is written off after one bad mistake at Torquay. Lets give the lad a chance.

In any case I do not think we need another keeper so we won't be signing Camp.

You do have to accept mistakes from any goalkeeping. Even more so when they're only young and inexperienced.

My 'problem' with Federici is that, much like Stack, he concedes goals that you just think he could've done a bit more about. Those ones that don't really look like a keeper error but you just think that had Marcus been in goal we wouldn't have conceded. Ian Walker was much the same, and I think Carson is probably a bit similar. I guess it comes down to

All keepers pull of good saves now and again, that's the easiest part of the game for them, it's the bits you don't always notice so much that sets to good apart from the average. The positioning or communication that means they don't have to pull off those spectacular saves.

4 mistakes at Torquay, in 3 games.

With regards to Federici, his distribution is awesome, he's an athelte and far more agile than Hahnemann. He needs games and he's getting them at Southend. To say you can't remember a Federici error though must have meant you have hardly seen him RR! In all honesty. Burnley's 2nd goal, Man Utd's first 2, I felt he should have saved Benayoun's shot and made it too easy for Torres' first goal, we sit right in line and he was practically stood in front of his near post, leaving Torres only 98% of the goal to aim at.

As Hoop Blah rightly points out you just feel that Marcus woud have kept them out. Hamer looks a real prospect i must say.

'greed.

I don't see Fed getting the No.1 shirt though. He is suspect, especially low to his right.

Hamer is coming along leaps and bounds, as is Andersen (sp?).

Future's bright indeed.

Hoop Blah
SCIAG Andersen has proven far more in Scandinavia than Hamer has in England.

How do you figure that then?

Youngest goalkeeper ever to play in the Swedish top flight.

Loved in Denmark.

Hamer hasn't done anything like what Andersen did.

I think you're swallowing the clubs PR there. For starters Copenhagen is in Denmark not Sweden!

I'll take your word for him being loved over there though, but he only played something like 7 games for AB Copenhagen, who, according to Wikipedia were not even in the top flight at the time Andersen was in the team (06-07 which was the season we signed him). I don't know where the myth of him playing in the top flight comes from, maybe Wikipedia is just wrong, but if he did play in the top flight it probably would've been as part of the team that got relegated!

In my opinion Hamer's acheived a lot more over here than Andersen ever did over there or over here. He's been number one at two seperate clubs and one of them's come back in to take him back for another season because he impressed so much. He's part of a defence at Brentford that's conceded only 4 goals in 10 league games.

The two clubs that have had Andersen on loan, at a lower level, have only used him 3 times and don't seem to want him back.

I knew Copenhagen was in Denmark, I thought he'd played in Sweden for some reason. Not geographicly murked, confusing him with someone else (Larsson? Sorensen?) or else confusing his club with some Swedish club (AIK?). He was definately the youngster keeper in some sort of first team football in Denmark (Wikipedia doesn't show cup appeances FWIW).

Rushden only had him for seven days on an emergency loan. When their first choice was fit, they didn't need Andersen any more. HTH.

I realised that you'd probably picked that up from the club site, hence the "you're swallowing the clubs PR" comment, but is that the extent of your knowledge?

If so, do you still think, as you originally argued, that he's achieved more in Denmark (not Sweden) where he's "loved" than Hamer has over here?

Seems to me that you were just making it up to sound clever.

Paul Smith is one of the best goalkeepers in the division if not the best, he's hardly 'old' and now Camp has just swapped the bench at QPR behind a 34 ear old keeper to try and dislodge Smith. A very peculiar transfer. If Smith isn't wanted there then Calderwood seriously has lost the plot.
