It amusing to see some people come on this thread and pile on against Schards.

And then those same people go to other threads and make Schards' case for him.

Like this:

Even if we get promoted, how would we fare? Honestly, is this team better than the team that went up to the Prem before? If we didn't spend then, would we now? Premiership wise, which team needs strengthening the most? That one or this one?

Eactly Denver. It's taken a while for it to dawn on the hard of thinking but, when you have a manager who is not going to be there long term and a chairman who wants to sell and is pledged not to invest heavily into a squad that would clearly need it if we did get promoted, then, in time, it will effect results and performances.

The players know there will be a different manager soon and that in the best case scenario, next year they face a season long struggle to better Derby's total as, without investment, this squad will be cannon fodder. Hardly an incentive is it?

And when will these problems change? Doesn't sound like any time soon as there's no sign of a buyer and no sign of Madejski wanting to invest further. Some might say it would be hard to see any progress for the forseeable future. Some actually said it while we were winning and scoring for fun earlier in the season.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm merely pointing out that it appeared like an admission he was wrong. The key was in the phrase "I would, however, accept that in the main, it hasn't been dull so far". forgive me if he actually didn't mean what he wrote.

When he wrote it in NOVEMBER that was probably a fair comment, when he started the thread in SEPTEMBER we hadn't exactly set the League alight, and since NOVEMBER we've got progressively worse - can't score a goal, couldn't beat Bristol City yesterday, hence his comments.

Unless I'm gravely mistaken, he didn't mean JUST this season. He said for the FORESEEABLE future. That's what people have overlooked I think. You see something you don't particularly agree with and rip it to shreds without actually reading it properly and understanding the actual point of the post.

I've read his post more often and more carefully than it deserves. I tried to understand exactly what he was writing and tried to see if he had a worthwhile point of view. Some time back i even did him the courtesy of writing a post which examined all the points he made and answered them. Maybe you didn't read it, or if you did you simply did not understand it. If you read any number of posts throughout the team board after yesterday's result you'll see descriptions such as "dire" "rubbish" "mediocre" blah blah blah. Perhaps you should have a go at them, because it was only one game. If you saw us play in our last 5 games, you'd be inclined to agree rather more with Schards' original sentiments.
