Reading manager Steve Coppell:

"We work hard in training and have lots of finishing sessions and I don't know why we are not scoring at the minute.

"If I knew why we weren't I obviously would have done something about it by now.

"Recent results would suggest that teams have worked us out. Whether we are a one-trick pony or not I don't know - only time will tell.

"With the record we have here, teams come and defend. They changed their shape and on the day it worked.

"We can't complain about that but we will lick our wounds and come back."

After these comments he should be out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You missed the bit where he had a pop at the fans for leaving early. For me he can do one for saying that.

Good bloody job too, we have done worse since you started to watch games again.

Would that be N Hunt, that was signed by Coppell,

Marek came on and changed all of that. We had someone who could make a decent pass on the pitch. And in any case, the players do all have a brain, they could think to play a pass on the ground without Coppell having to tell them to do it.

Which is a huge problem right now. He's playing Lita (5'7) and Doyle (5'10) and knocking long balls at them. What's the point of that? If we had someone at 6'7 we wouldn't give them balls into the channels to chase so why are we doing this? :|

Totally bypassing our midfield all the time, although to contradict myself, looking at our midfield it's probably the best option.

Signed by Steve Coppell. Had to watch us splutter through the fist 6 games before getting picked by Steve Coppell. Score 1O goals for Steve Coppell in little more than half a season before getting dropped by Steve Coppell in favour of a player who has managed one league goal a season for us over the last 2 campaigns.

PS. I think it might be time to "lose" another shirt.

howser I just think its the "loyalty" question as last year, since the Birmingham game we have been very average with very little imagination and flair in the middle, the constant 5 man midfield has us completely scuppered and we seem to have no way of playing against it, there was comment from SSC last season that he thought he was a little "too loyal" to the team when they couldn't win anything, and it would appear we are heading down the same road again.
If he hasn't got confidence in the full squad to replace the "untouchables" in the side then why wasn't more done in the transfer window, we have got Tabb in, Coventry captain and a regular starter, who has at last got his backside on the bench today, and that is where it stayed, and for some reason we got an Ipswich reserve ??.
Each week now irrespective of the result or performance we pour out the same starting x1, I would have thought that playing Championship football each week that Tabb would be "up to speed" with the Championship pace ?
This, why not getting serious, yet, is becoming a concern as the pack are catching the top three, all of whom are pretty patchy at the moment, and I dont see SSC changing his ways, with the more than liklehood that next week we will still be fielding the dull, uninspiring same x1.

Agreed, once again Coppell's loyalty and conservatism is starting to cost us dear in terms of lost points.

+2

When we went 1-0 down I said I'd leave if BC scored a second so, I missed nearly all the 2nd half :P

I can't remember walking out before in such fashion but I didn't want to start taking it out on the players.

I listened to an hour of Kebe, Hunt and Harper bashing on RB and can't understand why so few are prepared to blame the one man who should be taking all the flack.

Steve Coppell is a great manager when things are going well but when the sh*t hits the fans he dons a tin hat and takes cover in the nearest bunker. One also has to wonder if the fact he can't counter 4-5-1 has something to do with old dogs failing to learn new tricks.

I had to laugh tonight when he said that this campaign is different to the one 3 years ago.
I thought, you're not wrong there. That season we didn't start with Hunt at left back because you refused to replace Shorey until he'd left despite the fact he'd played like a spoilt child for all of the previous season.

That season we didn't play 2 out of form strikers (Long and Lita) over the first 6 games before we finally got Noel Hunt, who had impressed just about everyone other than one Steve Coppell whenever he was given the chance.

The last month has been down to Coppell and no one else. The same Noel Hunt sustained a mystery injury for one game and we haven't scored since as his manager grabbed the "chance" to drop him with both hands.

Coppell wouldn't drop Shorey or Ingimarrson and yet we haven't missed either of them. When Karacan was playing in one of our best spells of the season our manager was busting a gut to get Harper back in the team.

My seat will be empty next week. Stop picking your favourites, Steve.........................sort it out or fcuk off.

Royal Lady
Royal Rother This is just horribly embarrassing. Please stop.
Agreed.

Coppell has been the best thing to happen to this club for 137 years.

I don't know what is said/done in training etc, but at the end of the day it's those 11 players on the pitch who have to produce the goods and, for whatever reason, they're not. There's no passion, no fight, no spirit. I don't know what's gone wrong, but it's not ALL done to Copps.

But sorting out the mess does fall down to one man and that is the manager!! If there is no passion, fight or spirit then he has to do something about it.

I think what most worrying about Coppell is the fact that everyone else can see what is wrong and he can't.

I thought his reaction to the match on the radio was so blinkered it was laughable. To say he was upset that lots of fans left before the end is way out of order!!

I would hate to see him go, but if he can't start telling certian players some home truths about themselves then it might be better if he was to go!!!

If there isn't some improvement/change next week, then my season ticket will not be used again until changes are made.

Started in the 6th league game tho, and came on in the 5th, only for RFC to concede twice after he came on.

After 6 games we had 10 points, not too shabby in all honesty.

Lads and lasses, please don't start calling for the managers head after one game. You only have to look at this thread to understand why.
Just give it time, if we don't get promoted then maybe you have a case for getting his head on a platter, but until then, support him.

Nope, I just find these plastics saying they are not going again until things improve repulsive.

You should support a team through thick and thin, whether you agree with what the manager's doing or not.

Throwing your toys out of the pram because you don't agree with manager is just pathetic IMHO. Whinge on here all you like but to stop going in a hissy fit makes you the very worst of fair weather supporter.

Did he? You'd think he'd have a lot, lot more to worry about than that kind of thing.

Steve - I know you're a regular reader - I left on 80 minutes. I could leave on 8 minutes if I wanted to, it'd be none of your business really, you still get paid. I don't have a job of work to do, there are no obligations upon me, I am a paying spectator.

Have to agree there Schards, why would anyone buy a ST if they did not want to attend the games, missing if ill, or it's too cold or a good reason, is fine, but to not turn up because it is poor on the pitch is laughable. just buy pre match, then no one will notice if you are there or not.

AndyRFC See ya Steve.

I cant actually stand any more of the turgid performances your 'team' serves up. You have lost the plot and its time to go. Give us a chance for some one to take us up. We've had two weeks off and you put the same oxf*rd side out who are about as useful as a condom is to a catholic.

Whats happened to "free scoring" Reading? thats one goal in five now and that was an oggy.

Only a 4-0 win against a shambles of a Watford side which we played shite againt, is the only time we've looked semi decent since Xmas

You won't use the loan system when teams like Brum will strengthen (albeit not win today) and you've just run out of ideas

People will read this and mock, but you have told the truth
