I'm actually surprised that he got 7 goals this season. Is this his personal best season total goals?

Archie's penalty 7 league goals this season. Not three bad.

Time on the pitch 1272 minutes = 14.13 games for 7 goals

Earned 1 point at Southampton with late equaliser

Earned 1 point (should have been three) with 2 goals v Charlton

Earned 1 point - won the penalty for the equaliser at Watford

Earned 2 points. Won penalty that broke deadlock 82nd minute v Norwich (and scored second goal)

Earned 2 points with winner at Sheffield, also made goal-line clearance

Scored the killer second goal at Derby, plus two disallowed goals

Also credited with two assists not incl the three penalties he has won

In the 9 games where he has not featured at all we failed to score 7 times (77%)..

1-0 Barnsley (only win)

0-1 Forest
0-1 Sheffield United
0-2 Bristol
0-2 Swansea
0-1 Burnley

2-2 Cardiff
0-0 Forest
0-0 QPR

W-01 D-03 L-5 03-09 = 06 points (-06 goals GD) = 0.667 points/game

In the 35 games where he took some part we failed to score 7 times (20%)
and we averaged almost three times as many points per game

W-19 D-11 L-5 66-29 = 68 Points (+37 goals GD) = 1.942 points per game

Whilst not being a massive fan of Long I said that i felt sorry for him on Kitson's arrival he should also have never been dropped at the time he did. He scored 2 v Charlton, and was one of our better players in the next game when he was astoundingly subbed after 50mins, might have been the Cardiff game? Can't remember. I don't think he's been treated particularly well this season in all fairness by those in charge.

He now has 15 league goals from 26 starts (and 70 sub appearances)

7 from 9 (this season, total time on pitch = 14 full games)

Lita has 20 goals from 60 starts 19 subs (league)

But Long always looks like he wants something to happen - and often he does make it happen. We only played with urgency against Barsnley when he came on, for instance.

Whereas Lita always looks like he's waiting for somnething to happen for him.

Please God, give us a player with Lita's ability but Long's attitude and desire! But if we can't have both in one player, I'll take the player who wants to play and wants to make an impact - any day of the week.

cmonurz Someone posted he was going to get 15 this season.

Some one under a slightly different name zan usual posted that all of our strikers would get into double figures in 06/07 and then got so pissy when people quite rightly told him he was talking bollox, he changed his user name!

Anyway, I think this showed that we really should have had LOng out on loan throughout 05 to 07 so that he'd be getting the experience he got now then and could have contributed more this season. He's clearly good enough for the top of the Championship and I think our unwillingness to let him go and learn his trade for a few seasons may not have helped us over the last two seasons.

You just know after all the sh1t this lad has taken he will score the winner at Wembley (from a Kebe cross :D ). Along with Doyle a tireless worker and a cracking attitude. Like many I have never been a great fan, but he is making people eat their words now.

Obession !!

Nothing has ever been posted that suggests the idea that we had 4 strikers capable of scoring 15 in a season was wrong....

Shane was the only one against whom there was a question mark....

I still don't think he's good enough consistently and I'd like to see him moved on. Especially if a miracle occurs and we go up.

In all fairness though he has come on a lot in the last 6 months. Unless we have a major slump in table position I don't think he'll ever be good enough to be a regular for us though. Which is a shame because he clear has potential, which IO think would have been realised had he actually played regularly at some point, for someone over the last 3 years.

I still think he tends to sulk when things aren't going his way and his touch and footballing brain aren't good enough. Maybe if we stay down he is worth one more season.

think thats quite unfair

hes shown steady improvement IMO, and because of that deserves to stay and get more some game time

With Doyle and Lita likely to leave if we stay down, then I would be happy to see NHunt as lead striker with Long fighting it out for 2nd/3rd choice with someone else. He's OK at this level

Well you're entitled to disagree with my opinion. He's certainly scored some important goals for us since January - in that he's scored some at all.

Since coming on against Sheff Wed he has been having by far his best run of form in a Reading shirt, often putting in better shifts than Kitson or Doyle. I wasn't at the game yesterday but it sounds like he did a lot of good work aside from his goal. He's a hard worker and he has a great attitude. He's always had potential. Could we finally be seeing him fulfill it? If we stay down, I think he could have a great season next year. I'm not convinced he's good enough for the Premiership though. By all means let him prove me wrong!

What you said wasn't that they were all individually capable of scoring them but that they could all do it in the same season playing for us.

I think it was pointed out at the time that no other club had achieved it and it was nowhere near likely that they could all play enough games to get close to that tally.

You still can't accept that what you suggested was a load of rubbish!!!

...also, great to see Snowball back to update a stat in support of one of his claims after a bit of a break from the board when everything else he came up with was shown to be as reliable as a flying Malian winger!
