Arnie_Pie
Readingfanman So if we win on Monday and beat Birmingham, we are relying on Colin oxf*rd to provide us with a draw at home to Sheffield, can anyone really see them doing it? It is perfectly possible I guess with hopefully the physcological element of the day getting to the Blades, but that is not the point in this thread.

If we won on Monday night at Norwich, but Sheffield then went on to get promoted, would you be more down knowing that we had the hope on the last day and having it knocked out of you? Or would drawing at Norwich and then beating Birmingham, still seeing Sheffield getting promoted be more frustrating?

I personally think seeing us "lose" promotion on the final day would be a lot more down heartening to the players and the fans, even if it is not in our hands. Beating Birmingham would be a massive result in the scheme of things, but would it not be more morale inducing to see Sheffield then get promoted maybe by a lucky equaliser after we thought we were going up. Would it not be almost in a way "better" if we drew on Monday and went into the last game knowing we were playing for the Playoffs?

Us losing auto on the last day of the season is no worse than getting relegated on the last day by another teams result. Like last year.

If we lose it we still have hope.

But losing hope on the last day, do you think that would hurt the players morale more than the potential of no hope being shot to pieces on the last day because we already couldn't get promoted?

Man Friday
readingbedding Warnock's a pro.
Aside from that disaster against West Brom? (Patrick Suffo???) years ago, I don't think he can be called into disrepute into throwing a game.

If you're capable of doing something like that once, you're capable of doing it again.

He didn't throw the game. His team were 0-3 down, so he took some "injured" players off knowing the game would have to be abandoned, and in theory replayed.

To be fair, I think the key part of Man Friday's post was "something like that".

Yes - amazed that football fans get excited about something that isn't going to happen.

If, as is highly likely, it doesn't happen, it will be because Palace are crap and not because Colin threw the game to favour a man he hates.

It would appear so.

Who knows. All i care about now is two cracking games, 2 wins and then if we are still 'just' playing in the play offs then so be it. I would rather the team play their backsides of with the incentive of results going our way than just conserving themselves for the play offs. Who knows how the players will react but i'm sure it won't be quite the pick themselves off the floor scenario. They will have to fire themselves up for 2 / 3 extra games with decent prep if we make it to the final.

What I will say is that for most of today I was convinced that Brum would move out of our reach. It was perfectly reasonable to think so, but I was wrong. Right now I'm convinced that Sheff Utd will beat Palace. It is perfectly reasonable to think so, but I can be wrong again. Hope is still there for me, if not expectation.

Colin may be a oxf*rd, but he's a professional. The Palace team he puts out will be there to win. They won't, but they may get a draw, which is all we need.

It's an outside bet, but it's not that outlandish, and at worst if we do our bit we go into the play offs as the form team.

It would be tbetter to go into the play offs knowing you'd done what you had to do and been stumped by someoen else because you'd left it to late, than to go into them knowing that you'd failed to do all you could to get automatics.

Agreed.. he would be a complete hypocrite if he put out a weakened team after everything he moaned about when SHeff Utd went down

Screw hypocrisy I don't think he'd give a flying one about that.

He's more likely to have a real issue with losing, or better still have an issue with anyone but him taking Sheff Utd up.

If we beat Norwich, next Sunday could be one of the classic last days. Reading dawuing 1-1 with Brum, 88 mins gone, Sheff winning 1-0 at palace when news filters through that palace have equalised. In a frantic last few minutes we score and are going up. We lose concentration, Brum stream forward and Marcus saves a certain goal. we are up.

Or any variation on the above - should be classic, whatever.

Or Sheffield United go 2-0 up in the first 15 mins. Mad Stad silent except for the Brum fans. Reading realise the game is up and lose all drive. Birmingham score twice before half time. Longest 45mins ever as second half drags on to the soundtrack of celebrating Brummies.

Yipee, can't wait..............

I don't care about the other results meaning us or Sheff U go up, I just don't want to see Brum celebrating their promotion at our place.
