Brum appeal Bowyer red

by TFF » 27 Apr 2009 12:17

The ref seemed to indicate headbutting when he sent the two players off. Given that it's pretty obvious they didn't bang heads will they both get off or can the FA decide that grabbing Williamson's face and pushing him into the floor should have seen him dismissed anyway?

http://www.bcfc.com/page/News/NewsDetai ... 37,00.html

Blues have submitted a wrongful dismissal claim to the Football Association following midfielder Lee Bowyer's sending off at the weekend.

Bowyer was shown the red card following a tangle with Preston's Lee Williamson on the hour mark at St. Andrew's. Williamson was also sent off.

Referee Phil Dowd dismissed the pair on the grounds of violent conduct, for alleged headbutting. The offence carries an automatic three-game ban.

However, having viewed replays of the incident, Birmingham City strongly contest the claim and have submitted written and DVD evidence to the FA.

An FA regulatory commission will hear the appeal on Tuesday afternoon.

He's a horrible little shit and I'd be delighted if he were unavailable.

Was it a straight red or a second yellow? As, IIRC, he was booked in the first half for a late tackle so could have been booked for "adopting an aggressive stance" or whatever the FA charge is.

Hopefully the FA will add another game ban on to his suspension for the frivolity of the appeal (a la Aliadiere v Liverpool last year).

Straight red. You can't appeal two yellows.

It was definitely a straight red. I didn't see any yellow cards in the aftermath of the melee.

Who put this in general football?

Objection! Direct relevance to team to play us Sunday and maybe even play-offs.

Birmingham don't have a leg to stand on. I felt sorry for Williamson though because he didn't really do much wrong. Just unfortunate for him that the ref looked over and saw them head to head rather than Bowyer dragging him to the floor and molesting him.

8 red cards in his career now. Dirty, nasty player (Bowyer obviously)

Williamson should definitely get off - he didn't do anything bar not give ground when Bowyer went head to head with him.

That's good, but it's not on BBC Sport website yet.

Is it on Sky?

Both appeals. Williamson because he moved his head towards Bowyer. Poor sod, he'd just been tripped, grappled, scratched and God knows what else, but showed admirable restraint, except moving his head (with his hands by his side) towards Bowyer (as the little shit screams abuse at him with that butt-ugly mug of his) but without making contact and gets sent off and banned.

Ridiculous.

Both teams lost their appeal, according to the official BCFC website

three games each. So both will miss the play off semi's, if their teams are involved.

I'm not usually a bloke who likes seeing men hurt in football, but, aside from sticking six past West Ham on NYD 07, the best moment of that day came when Lee Bowyer dislocated his shoulder right in front of the East Stand. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke

Am I the only one feeling a bit miffed that we won't get to see Doobs get to say hello to his old chum Bowyer?
