PieEater So what happened to the 100 applicants, the short list, the interview process etc?

Basically we just went to Watford and got the man we wanted, so why wait a month. Wigan will manage to do the same in a couple of days.

The way I read the comments on the OS Rodgers was picked after being interviewed.

But we hated the prem, as it was full of plastics and no soul.

Brendan's message to Royals supporters

Brendan Rodgers has told Reading fans "I'm one of you" as he takes up the managerial reins.

The new manager told Reading World, "My message to supporters is that I'm now the greatest and biggest supporter of Reading. I'm one of you - but I have the responsibility and therefore have to remove some of that emotion to help us win games.

"I promise that my communication will always be open, I will have quality in my work and big ambition.

"If I wanted to be comfortable I would still be at Chelsea. I'm taking a step out on my own with big ambition to work at the highest level, and nothing would give me a greater sense of achievement than taking my hometown club back into the Premier League.

"I will be fighting every day of my life to make sure we are competing and successful.

"This is where it all started for me, so to come back and manage the club is fantastic. I can't wait to get started.

"The club has just finished a fantastic cycle under Steve Coppell, who is a great manager and a great man. He brought success and will always be regarded as a legend.

"I'm a different person and am looking forward to putting my ideas in place, and hopefully becoming second the person to take us into the Premier League."

Loving him already :D

An earlier statement concluded with this to the Watford supporters...

“I am sure the supporters, once they have had a few days, will understand my decision. I will forever hold that period in my life as a special one.”

I really like the comments he's coming out with already. I know Steve Coppell played everything down and didnt blow his or the teams trumpets in press conferences, but I do enjoy hearing a bit of passion from the manager. A bit like Pardew, for whatever his flaws were, he did big everyone up and we had that 'tenacity, spirit, flair' thing going on - he even talked about unleashing the rouge..... Granted some of the hype didnt equate on the pitch, but i still like to hear it.

Royal With Cheese
RoyalBlue Nothing more than hearsay my Lord!!

How can anyone who wasn't there during the conversation know whether that was said or not? At the time McGhee left, we were told that he had said certain things/that certain things happened, which he subsequently denied. Furthermore, I still have a letter somewhere from the then Chairman of Leicester who actually took the trouble to respond to my letter of criticism and told a somewhat different account of affairs from that which most people in Reading heard.

Care to reproduce the letter? I'm genuinely interested.

Much as I would like to, the last time I wrote about some of the detail someone didn't like it and there was talk of lawyers! What I would say is that I was very impressed by the way that Martin George took the trouble to explain his position and the conduct of his club to an individual supporter of another club. I have to say that since that time I have had a bit of a soft spot for LCFC which was reinforced by the fantastic manner in which they and their supporters treated us on that wonderful day back in March 2006.

Why would lawyers get involved? And even if they did, surely it would be between the Chairman of Leicester City and McGhee?
I've gone from genuinely interested to confused.

Frankly if it contains anything that might get a lawyer involved (presumably for libel) I wouldn't be very impressed if I was you.

This was posted on the Watford forums:

Reasons why Reading are the new Luton.

1) They feckin' cheat by scoring goals against us that don't actually go in the feckin' net.

2) They nick our fat, ugly greedy manager.

3) They try and look like QPR

4) They are cants
