Chaney I have known this great guy from way back in the days of the lower leagues at elm park, a Reading fanatic and season ticket holder, has a group of friends we enjoyed many an away day, untill about 3 years ago he a regular in the jazz cafe, yes he liked a drink my mate Richard,
I was with him at leicester city when we clinched promotion to the premier league, don`t think I ever saw the man look so happy and true to form we got plastered on the way home. he really enjoyed our time in the big time as we all did.
however during the 2nd season there his health deteriated and he couldn`t go any longer. we missed him as did all his friends.
during the last two seasons he started to come again but he had to sit lower down in Y22.
always a joy to see him and have a chat, during the West brom game I was making my way to my seat for the 2nd half when I saw him sitting there, "I shouted Richard, you ok?" he smiled and waved, I wouldn`t have expected anything less..a truly wonderful man.

Little did I know at that moment in time that it would be the last time I see him..I got a phone call last night from a mutual friend, he said I have some bad news..Richard died suddenly last night..a real shock has I choked back tears. he was just 49 years old. far too young to go
he leaves a wife and 2 children.

Reading FC has lost one of its greatest fans and we have lost a wonderful friend. our loss is heavens gain.

RIP RICHARD YOU WON`T BE FORGOTTEN.

Season ticket holders and regular fans tend to get a mention in the programme. Sadly, in every sense, there must be too many who die in any year to make a minute's silence realistc. It's just that you only hear about a tiny fraction of them.

What did Richard die from Chaney

it would be wrong for me to speculate out of respect for his wife son and daughter, however I did mention in the OP that his health deteriated a few years back (even though he appeared to be over the worse of it)..has with all sudden deaths a post mortem will be held. has for any action being taken by the club..that is a matter for his family to decide their choice at a very difficult time.

FWIW, I though that was a perfectly reasonabe and natural question, asked without any overtones or bad taste.

Impossible to say much without sounding trite.

Thoughts to his family and friends and sad to have an empty seat at the game today.

Always sad to hear of someone dying, especially when it sounds somewhat unexpected.
RIP

LoyalRoyalFan I hope the club mention this on Monday with either a minute's applause or silence.

Bit of an over-reaction I feel, although obviously from the best of intentions and sentiment. I can't help but think we'd have half a dozen or more a season if every time a longstanding supporter died there was one. Which, for me at least, would devalue it for everyone.
