PEARCEY Given how many clubs have been or are now really struggling with debts/threats of adminstration etc I've changed my opinion of Madejski and accept there does have to be some cloth cutting. I just hope the youngsters are now sold though. They represent a bright future. We have a big squad that can be trimmed back by 4/5 players in total...so if 7 or 8 go in the summer and only 3 come in so be it.

Sun Tzu And LOL at RoyalBlue with his usual cynicism ! I'm not sure how he keeps up the negativity when the feeling around the club has to be extremely positive....

Royal Lady If we have to save £4million for next season, despite also getting £11 million or whatever it is as our final parachute payment, I have serious worries for future seasons, assuming we don't get into the Premiership.

RoyalBlue
Banks like lending money to very well run businesses and we repeatedly have been told that Reading FC is an extremely well run business!

I know. I was saying we have to save £4million FOR NEXT SEASON, despite also getting £11 million - I know we get it this season as such (though the season is now over of course - so it's FOR next season) and that is why I am concerned about FUTURE seasons.westendgirlRoyal Lady If we have to save £4million for next season, despite also getting £11 million or whatever it is as our final parachute payment, I have serious worries for future seasons, assuming we don't get into the Premiership.
We don't get any parachute money next season, the final payment is this season.

79Royal Madejski has kept us afloat for the past 20 years and for many of them, he's had to put his own money in. Now he's finally got a chance to make us viable in modern football terms, why wouldn't he take it?
Maybe Madejski is being selfish, maybe he's being wise, maybe he's doing what he thinks is best day-by-day, month-by-month. All I do know is that in my 27 years supporting the club, Madejski has taken us further than any other chairman we've had. We've had more ups than downs and I'm willing to put my trust in Sir John for a while longer yet.
EDIT: For perspective, it's worth noting that 8 of our 10 best ever seasons have come since 2002: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDet ... 41,00.html

I think you meant 'not' rather than 'now' !!
I'm sure the squad will be trimmed, but of peripheral players rather than key ones.

Royal Lady Read this slowly - in a few weeks time we get approx £11 million as our final parachute payment. This will be used for NEXT season, will it not? Yet the club are saying we need to save £4million for the coming season (or NEXT season if you will). My point is, if we were saying this at the end of NEXT season, I could understand - as we won't be getting a parachute payment - so if we are having to trim £4million in the next season, despite having £11 million as a parachute payment also, then the following season will be very worrying with regard to cost-cutting, will it not?
