Griffin to sign

by Royal_Delight » 13 May 2010 15:17

Apparently, we are on the verge of signing Griffin according to the Chronic. Would be great news if it were to be true.

And fingers crossed that he doesn't turn out to be another Matthew Robinson in the second and third seasons - mind you it allowed Shorey time to develop, so maybe by the time Griffin retires, Cummings will be ready to step up.... ;)

I'm trusting Brian to work his magic on Griffin like he did on Zurab.

...though neither have actually signed yet. It's the thought that counts at this stage.

I spoke to my source last Friday. Stoke are willing to let him go on a free, we were in talks with Griffins agent-the only sticking point was the loyalty bonus from Stoke that he was entiltelled to.

Never have I read so much bullshit. Karacan is a fantastic footballer, why would you want him to leave? Moron. In any event, I've heard that Karacan wouldn't dream of moving to Turkey cos he couldn't get used to the different culture there.

If we sign Griffin and Zurab, keep our first team squad and this Williams lad turns out to be alright, we've got a great chance of promotion next season. I wouldn't say it's that unlikely. I'd give odds of 4-1 or maybe 5-1 on it.

from what i understand Zurab isn't a priority. It all depends on whether Ivar signs a new contract. To get Zurab, we'd have to get premiership wages off the bill which is Ivar. The coaches are worried baout Zurab's lack of pace at 28. The priority was a left back and a right back.

More worringly Liverpool may make a double move for Federici and Gylfi

That's a little surprising, even if Ivar signs a new one year deal we'll still only have three centre backs and Bryn as back up (if he signs too), I assume Cisse will go. Really we need four specialist centre backs as an absolute minimum for a 46 game season so, though I appreciate that Khish's wages will be a bit of an issue, i'd be surprised if we weren't looking for another CB in addition to Ivar.

Just think we have better players than him and would rather see us cash in on him and start somewhere with saving this supposed 4m. Only time will tell

Indeed, puncturing his lung would be a big set back for Griff so fingers crossed it doesn;t happen.

This is good news about Griff, but disappointing news about Zurab. As has been mentioned above, Gazzer is a very reliable source of news from the club, so it's curious that the club felt we needed additional central defensive cover (and we did) for the last half of the season but they don't think we need it now.

I think losing Ingimarsson for 6 months was probably key, and the position we were in as well.

I'd say we need a new partner for Mills with Ingimarrson (if he signs) and Pearce as back up to them.

On the Karacan situation I can understand a bit of frustration on his part. He's getting to the stage where he needs to be playing week in week out to continue to progress and he might feel that McDermott won't be able to offer him that this season.

As for going to Turkey, I think he played it down last year or the year before, but if he's given the chance to play for one of the big clubs over there, as it was mooted before, I can't see him turning it down. He couldn't really say that 18 months ago as a young kid trying to impress at Reading couls he?

That isn;t what was said. We have PRIORITISED the full back spots, which seems sensible seeing as we have no credible players in either position. Having sorted that we'll look at the next priority. To go into a season with 4 centrebacks and no left back would have been daft.

If they think Zurab possibly isn;t the answer anyway then we'll be casting the net wider. I very much doubt we'll see August start with only 3 centre backs on the books....

Agree with the Jem comments esp if he see's his international future with Turkey - it wouldn't do his prospects any harm to be playing for one of the bigger clubs over there with European football etc - I can see him moving on.
