Oh. I thought it was Smee's money which stopped the sale to Maxwell and he was the chairman. Tranter may well have been instrumental in the dealings, but I believe it was Smee who had the cash available?

Roy came up with the idea of the legal challenge - and posted the legal papers himself - which stopped the sale of shares to Maxwell going through. Without that it would have all been done and dusted and the shares wouldn't have been available for Smee to buy.

Man Friday It's just that in the last 12 months millions of pounds have come into the club from player sales

Really? In the last 12 months (apart from Siggurdsson), we've only sold Bikey and S. Hunt for approximately £5m. Doyle doesn't count as he was sold 14 months ago. So, what other "millions" do you think we got? :| Do you think, before Siggurdsson's sale, we were ok financially wise?

But not the millions he implies that would have more than recovered our debt and put our bank account into a healthy state of being several millions in the black.

If you want to be pedantic, you can also say that we haven't actually received all the fee for S.Hunt yet. Maybe even Bikey too?

Very mature thread.

Hmph! It's cosy here up Madejski's rectum and I shan't hear anything I don't like.

Man Friday JM's investment into the club over the years have turned out to have been "loans".

Isn't that "the law"? :|

I think it's frankly oxf*rd outrageous that the chairman hamstrings the club with his insistence that we stick to the law instead of just cooking the books with a load of dodgy money wrapped up in Tesco bags.

The accounts are made public, and the club has to account for all income and expenditure, to HMRC amongst others. the accountants on here have repeatedly pored over the accounts, and shown how they do, in fact, square up. On what basis would anybody say that the accounts are, in fact, fraudulant (because that's what it adds up to, isn't it?) And, more to the point, why would anybody not think that we are most likely always still running to a loss? Where do people think that the money is going to come from, if Mr Mad is no longer willing/able to plug the defecit? We are not a rich club.

I don't think there's any law against giving money to a football club.

That said, my understanding has always been that Madejski's investment was a loan, I think many people assumed he would simply waive it at some point which seems to be misguided.

no one thinks hes going to give up the money owed in loans.
would go totally against what we know about the man.
and fair enough too

Which is why a significant number of people seem to want someone new to come along, someone from abroad who has no connection with the club, and simply give money to them.

yes- to me that seems highly suspect and dangerous.and is probably the very last thing i want for my club, even if it did mean we could appease all the hand wringers for a few years

Strange thing is that history has shown that all these saviours bearing promises of large, open cheque-books generally turn out to be nothing of the sort - ask any Portsmouth or Gretna supporter.

Even at the likes of Man City & Chelsea it remains to be seen what the long-term outcome will be - the benefactor only has to die or lose interest and the whole existence of the club is instantly threatened - if you have a business plan which depends on unlimited free money and the tap is turned off you're in big trouble.

And at last the elephant in the room about takeovers of clubs is starting to be seen, with Croydon City. It's publicly admitted at last that owning a football club is a perfect vehicle for money-laundering - I wonder how many foreign benefactors will be sniffing around football clubs now that it's common knowledge why many have become involved.

Pretty sure I read one of the accountants on another thread last week saying that a company director can't just give money to one of their businesses, it has to be given as a loan.

I think it is sort of possible as I understand that SJM converted some of his loans to shares several years ago. It is not just a matter of giving money though that can seem to be the end result
