I know that "undercover operatives" sat in my seats back in the championship year.
I moved seats from the middle of the east stand to what I'd always regarded as the "family area" in the north end of the east stand as I got my then six-year old son a HST. Unfortunately I ended up sat right in front of three of the worst unreconstructed racist imbeciles I have ever encountered. Everything Sonko or Lita did wrong on the pitch was due to the colour of their skin. Every other word in their normal spoken conversation was fcuk or pcunt and we would invariably be treated to tales of who had shagged who and who had fought who on the mean streets of Theale iirc.
The second time we sat there (having hoped it was a one-off the first time) I politely requested they moderate their behaviour within earshot of my son. Guess how that went!
After the third match (when I upgraded my son's ticket so a friend could join me) I asked the club to find me different seats. The ground was pretty much sold out so they obviously wanted to know why I wanted to move. When I explained they said they would move me for the next match and sit someone in my seats to see what was going on.
A game later they phoned and said they had dealt with the issue and did I want to return to my seats. Obviously being a grass and not knowing who these delightful fellows knew in the seats around me I declined and the club found me different seats and paper tickets each week until the end of the season.
I care not a jot what happened to those pcunts behind me.
Obviously this is a problem with (sold-out) all seater stadia and with the absence of a family area at the club. Maybe now is the time, now that attendances are down, for the club to re-instate a family stand.
I don't want to sterilise anyone's football experience. I'm all for leaving Y25/Y26 to their own devices (racial, homophobic and now sexist abuse aside of course) so all the lads can stand and swear to their hearts' content. My kids love the banter and chants that drift over from the east stand but it's very different hearing it to being in the middle of an intimidatory atmosphere.
There's no reason why RFC can't be a family club and keep the Y26ers happy. Give the kids somewhere specific to sit and most of the problems will go away.
