Ark Royal On second thoughts, it might have super-sub Uwe Hartenberger. That will bug me now for the rest of the day!

Exactly that - Jeff Hopkins maurauding forward, through ball to Hartenberger who tapped home.

Dariusz never scored for Reading, more's the pity. Always feels a bit wrong that shite like Sam Sodje, Peter Mate and John Polston all scored for Reading yet one of the most cultured and popular central defenders I have ever seen didn't get that accolade.

Yes, strange considering that he scored 12 goals for Celtic, mostly from thunderous free kicks.

Franchise FC
Gordons Cumming I blame him for us not getting to the Premiership 10 years earlier than we did.

I thought I was the ionly one that thought that
If he'd brought down Damian Defreitas he'd have been sent off and we'd have won.

But if you believe all that puritanical stuff in another topic that is not the Reading way as we are the modern version of The Corinthians.

The Real Sandhurst Royal Excellent player never understood why he picked Reading when he could have still played at a higher level.

After playing at Celtic, anything would have been a higher level.

Silly comment, the SPL was a lot better back then, much better than division one. Did you not follow football then?

Was it? Did we not sign the likes of Mike Conroy from that league around that time? :?

Royal Rother "Great player but had a heart the size of a pea..."

So says Mick Gooding.

Stupid comment if he said it - was 10x better than gooding ever was

I think that he said that after a disagreement about whether Dariusz was injured or not. Gooding insisted that he played and Dariusz jogged around in slomo until he was subbed.

Oh well, he was the better player so couldn't possibly have been a little soft, could he?

DW was great to watch but in the legend stakes I'll take Gooding every time.

Different types of player.Technically DW was superior to Gooding but Mick was a very good player in his own way.

WoodleyRoyal we beat them 6-4 at their place in 93! Brilliant game, Quinn got the 5th after we had blown a 4-1 lead to go 4-4, Taylor scored the 6th 8)

Was at that game. Filed out of St. Jame's Park in Exeter afterwards absolutely buzzing and walked past an Exeter supporter who hissed "see you again next season" in a fit of pique.

We went up, they went down and we haven't met since! (other than the return fixture at Elm Park that season)

Distinctly remember half a dozen lads in front of me singing "you might as well go home" (or words to that effect) at half time, and one of the fellas we were with warning them, in the wonderfully pessimistic way typical of a wizened old Reading fan, "don't get too cocky, it's not over yet". He got more joy telling them "told you so" than he did out of the 5th and 6th goals.

Brilliant, brilliant day.

Surely would have been better for him to have brought down Fabian de Freitas..........I don't remember Damian being in the Bolton team that day  .

Not least McAteer should have been sent off in the first half - history covered a million times before.

Still would be interested whether Wdowczyk offers any genuine and honest insight into his ban. There cannot be any smoke without fire. Must've been a pretty serious (alleged) offence even in Eastern Europe! Still doubt he will.....

For some reason the phrase 'Get A Life' springs to mind here.

great player, at the time it set my expectation of what a RFC centre back should be like, as it transpired it was clearly a one off...although the closest (ie proper ball playing centre back) subsequently was Zurab - but he just wasn't as good.

Nah, he was a bit too casual and prone to getting caught out, and not quite as cultured. But close.

exactly - that is the difference between a classy ball playing defender and a liability
