Why do United hate City? One club is from Manchester and the other...

From a neutrals perspective Brighton traditionally have always been than Reading. Reading have been bigger since 2005, but now they're on a par, but The Seagulls edge it for me as they're a more well known franchise.

I can recall occasions when I've been on holiday with m8s in Portugal, Italy, Spain, France and Germany where a local has come up to a m8 in a Reading shirt and asked if it was Brighton.

I know a geez thats a die hard Arsenal fan.
He's got 4 season tickets at the Amex because he lives nearby and wanted to go to fotball regularly.
Couldnt name a single player before this season.

Sound similar to another clubs fan base?

sign of the times boy.

they used to hate us because we played in a "soulless" out of town stadium and had a chairman pumping money in and bankrolling the team.......oh.

Even allowing for new stadium novelty this season, Brighton do have more fans than us. It's just that the years away from the Goldstone has somehow left many Brighton fans with the idea that it was forever the late 70s in Brighton, when the place really was heaving every week. The rapid slump to normality got airbrushed from memory.

The (genuine) injustice of them having lost their ground also seemed to be aggrevated by a perception that we didn't deserve a ground we'd "never fill".

You can probably also add in the weird snobbery that exists in football, where fans do their utmost to deny any club has moved up in the world. The fact that we appear to be a fairly typical championship level club by any rational measure now is ignored by those who are determined to cling to the belief that were a typical 3rd tier club really.

Tbf when I meat people from the UK when I go abroad on holiday, most folk don't know where Reading is at all, so in the end I just say I live near London.

I've got an image of NFA and TMD holding hands whilst skipping through a field of Daisies telling each other how wonderful they are. It's a proper Bromance, kind of endearing but disturbing at the same time and also quite apt for a thread about Brighton.

In case any Reading fans tell me to get over it, last time we went there they were still booing Mark McGhee about 10 years after he left them.

Fairweather, plastic , etc but booing a manager who left us over 10 years ago... Yeah that makes perfect sense. at football message boards. Home of the logically impaired.

I think it's because we only gave them 4,000 tickets to our game the season they won the league, and that it wasn't enough for a MASSIVE club like Brighton.

Of course the season after (when they were shit) half the stand was empty.

Massive, super, huge, amazing club.
