Barnsley Ticket Prices

by T.R.O.L.I. » 10 Jan 2012 20:31

Just had a look at the prices for our game at Oakwell and seriously - WTF

For some reason, we've been lumped into their category A band of pricing whereas the Barnsley v Boro game (far more local) is a category B game. As such, our ticket prices will be:

Category A

Adult: £30
OAP: £18
Student (18-20): £18
Juvenile (U18): £18
U12: £7

£30 for Oakwell? Ouchie!

Sick of this. First Leeds, now this. Out once again. How Barnsley can justify doing this crap category/band shite in this division is beyond me.

I was wanting to attend ths game having never visited Oakwell before, but at £30 this ground might have to stay unvisited for a furthur season!

Barnsley have form.

When we went there in 1994 they closed the normal away end (which was £7 to get in) and forced us to sit in a section of their old main stand and charged us £12. I recall the travelling Royals being outraged. It was about £6-7 to stand on the Southbank at the time so an enormous increase.

Earlier this season, Barnsley & Doncaster came to a reciprocal agreement, so that away tickets for the matches at both grounds were discounted by £7.

This all happened after supporters of both clubs saw the away ticket prices and indicated that they'd not be going to these games because of the cost.

That was a brilliant initiative and is the way forward - but it would require Reading to participate in offering the same discount - and it may be too late for this season, of course. But it's certainly a superb idea - and as both clubs found out, reducing the away ticket prices actually got them a higher away attendance and so made them more money in the end.

Time to make some enquiries tomorrow .....

Reading did offer Barnsley fans £23! Like we do for every team in this league. Barnsley are asking for us to pay £30 whilst Derby paid £23. Nonsense.

£18 for student, probably in tbh.

Adding £9.50 for my train from Lincoln 99% in for this.

I don't think reducing the prices by £7 will make much difference to our away attendance there considering the miles.

I presume we're category A and 'boro are category B because of where we finished in the table at the end of last season.

Yes your right I remember this me and me mate walked round to the smart stand on the other side which had only just been built and watched it there saving 5 quid each a lot back then!

Usually the categories aren't decided on league position, they're decided upon how many supporters the visiting team will bring, attract or both. Match categorising is all about about maximising revenue, not grading teams according to ability.

Is there a mini economic crisis in Yorkshire?

No, just in football - and it's a crisis of their own making.

I agree.

Out of interest, what has our categorising been for other clubs visiting the Madstad?

£30 for the Barnsley away fixture is an outrageous price.

Who do they think they are Leeds or Ipswich!!

I tried to to the same with a mate, but we were there quite early and clearly didn't look northern enough. Didn't have a dodgy tache perhaps. I'm sure it was £8 in that stand and £12 in ours.

The away end was shut for the same reason the home end was shut. It was a terrace and they'd just passed the three year deadline for converting.

Rather odd ticket bands they have, from their offical site.

Love it. Only Reading fans could be irate at the fact that we've been deemed a top game by another side!
