dantheloyalroyal And in case anyone was thinking of asking, no, I'm not a member. Nor do I plan giving £10 (or whatever it is) to an organisation which is such a shambles!
Just how is STAR a shambles?
I'm not currently a member but I have been. Anyone is free to join and indeed stand for a position on its board. It's a democratic organisation that pretty well represents the best interests of Reading fans 'as a whole'.
Frankly those that routinely decry its efforts and then say "I'm not getting involved" should STFU or do something about it - start a rival fans' organisation that campaigns for what matters to you. See if you can get a few like minded souls on board, and then see if you can enter a meaningful dialogue with the club (which is, of course, not a democratic organisation and can do pretty much exactly as the owner/management pleases)
There seems to be a perception, on HNA certainly, that STAR should adopt a contrary position to everything the club does. Whilst that might suit the 'standers' in Y26 it's patently obvious that would be exactly the worst way to get anything changed.
I'm not STAR's biggest fan but I'm glad they're there. Initiatives like the clappers are a bit gimp but it'll appeal to the next generation of fans. The hooped shirt survey might not make a difference but at least they tried.
