I think the way the design worked if the North and South were expanded was that the new roof overlapped. Personally i'd expand the East stand first as we will struggle to hold any atmosphere with an extended away section.

38,000 should never happen!

Many said moving from 15000 to 24,200 should never happen.

Sunderland fans laughed when the Stadium of Light was proposed, and then they expanded further.

TSI are planning for the future. You have to if you ever want to progress. At the moment 38,000 feels far too big, but 30,000 doesn't. If we stay in the Premiership and get near to full 30k capacity for the most part, then opinions will change and the idea of expanding again wont seem so ridiculous. It will happen over a period of time, not over night.

So it wasn't decided at that point if they started with the East or North and South, it was for open discussion and the public's feedback. Personally I would go for the East, as that extra 6000 seats would take us to 30,000 and then wait and see about the rest after a season or two. If we did the North and South first, especially with their roof design, it would look a bit odd trying to link the existing East Stand roof to the the higher, curved South and North Stand roofs.

North and South looks better if the rest doesn't get done. Prefer expanding East first though...

I may bring a screwdriver to the last game before the expansion and take the seat as a souvenir. I've sat on it for 8 years so I think I can claim it as my own.

I had assumed that part of the rebuild was a complete relocation - this is clearly not the current site of the stadium! However, I now see that you have got it right, they are going to bulldoze the area and also bring all the surrounding land up to the same height as the Madejski.
